Im runnig D-16y8 with a greddy turbo kit @7psi intercooled. I was just wondering if anybody had a good cam gear setting for me to base mine on. There isnt any dynos around here and it set a stock right now but I was wondering if anybody had theres dynoed in and could maybe help me. Or it might not even be worth my time to try just give me so input on what everyody thinks

 

Mine is at +3 deg. Been to the dyno but only had the fuel tuned. Putting out 206/186 at 9 psi so it works for now!

 

So is your ignition timing still at stock with the cam gear +3 ? I forgot to say im running Fmu on mine if that matters

 

yea, i'm curious too. I have a JG 1001 turbo cam in the d16a6 and right now it's at stock...my ignition timing is all the way retarded though I might put it back to stock but I'm afraid of blowing up...I'm curious to see how much power it will give me though.

 

My cam gear doesn't have + or - (advance or retard) labeled. It just has a zero in the inner part and a tick mark on the outter part.

Just to make sure, when looking at the cam gear...

The basic way the cam gear is going to operate on the SOHC is when it's advanced it's going to help the low end, retarded give some high end flow. I'm still NA for now but I have mine advanced 3 notches 6 degrees I belive.

 

I took out 3 deg of ignition timing if I remember right.

 

do you know the purpose of a cam gear? if you have a turbo cam i cant imagine why you would want to change any settings. also i hope your ignition is not "all the way retarded" because your car must drive like ****. your timing has to be advanced, maybe not at the factory specs but advanced enough. other wise i sure your egt will been in the 2k+ range and your car will preform like crap.

 

sure, purpose of cam gear is to change valve timing. the distributor is all the way retarded, my timing light doesn't have the **** to tell the amount, but i'm guesstimating about 6 degrees retarded from stock timing. as for the egt range being at 2k+, i'm guessing that's too hot....why would it be that hot? b/c the combustion isn't done before the exhaust valve opens? the car isn't performing too bad, i'm running par with everyone else and w/ the same motor and greddy kits. i have a stock 175k cat, no front mount yet, and a lengthened actuator rod for a small 5psi and HORRIBLE spool time, once my front mount and new fuel system is in, the stock actuator goes in.

also, the plugs have been looking white lately....could the ign. timing be doing this? I thought it would be on the safe side with it retarded? thanks for the help.
