I just got a Garrett T3 oil and water cooled turbo. I was wondering if anyone has some pics or details of how they routed the water to and from the turbo. If you have some sort of the same set up on an Integra please post, and if you have pics it would be even better

 

Im not 100% sure but I think most people run it from the water pump. Im interested in this too, Id like to see some setups.

 

No pics, but the line going TOO the turbo (top side) comes off the left side of the block just below the radiator hose, I think it originally goes to the IM. Then the return goes from the bottom side either back to the block or the IM. I'll look at it tomorrow if you pester me more about it It's rather simple to route the tubes for it, and watercooled turbos rock

 

i have seen water cooled turbos get water from the hose that goes to the bottom of the throttle body. nowhere else though. fast idle thermo valve, although some honda/acuras dont have this valve.

get the coolant from your TB and just route it to the turbo, back to the TB...you should be set.

 

I relocated my oil filter on my gsr and can now use the two coolant lines that used to go to the oil cooler off the back of the block.

Ok, the first thing I did was remove the hose from under the trottle body off. You need to completly remove the hose that goes to from the throttle body to the water inlet under the vtec silenoid.

Then get a union and install it into the the hose coming from the IAC and intall a hose to join the 2 hoses together. I just used a silicon hose.


Then run this hose to any side of the water cooled housing. I actually used some aluminum tube that I had to use special tools so Earls fittings can be used. But you can buy fittings with nipples to connect these hoses up.


Then on the other out/inlet of the water cooled bearing housing, hook up a hose that goes into the inlet where under the vtec silenoid

Just a note...if you don't run the aluminum lines from the turbo like art did, make sure you use stainless steel braided line. The heat from the turbo and manifold will make rubber lines get hard and crack eventually.

not sure about the turbo heating the water past boiling point, i think there is enough flow to prevent this.

aside from the fast idle thermo valve (now that i think about it, this might be on automatics only) the engine water also flows thru the throttle body to prevent freezing air from causing any kind of icing in the throttle body. small planes have the 'carb heat' lever which does a similar thing so your carbs dont ice up and kill the motor when coming in to land.

the intake manifold is bolted to the cylinder head so its near engine (water) temp anyway.
