dual pass custom radiator + no heat.
Been having strange problem since I got my car running. I'm using an upright dual pass radiator:

I'm sure those pose no problem, but this is basically the only difference to my cooling system from since last year other then a bunch of turbo stuff. So the engine comes up to normal operating temperature.....I turn on my heater and I get heat. Let the heat run for about a minute..and it starts blowing cool. As long as I drive it it really wont produce anymore heat in the vents..eventhough the temp gauge is fully warmed up. If i turn the heater off for an extended period of time, once i turn the fan on I have heat again. It only runs for about a minute though till it starts blowing cool again. So it sounds pretty obvious there is a coolant flow problem...and my first guess would be a clogged heater core? Or maybe the valve the leads into the firewall....it's operating fine. I checked to make sure all the flaps and sliders were hooked up and moving. Just thought it bring up the radiator too cause I dont see anyone else using one like this....and i noticed that the main tank is much cooler then the upper radiator section part.....thats how it is on a standard..but this is sideways...
anyone with a similar problem..and what the solution was. Thanks.
Here is current driving setup. Lot of little bugs still need to be fixed and moved around...but it runs great.

I had the same problem when my oem radiator has a crack in it. When the coolant was low and the car started to heat up I tried turning on the heat and sometimes it would come out hot then turn to cool all of a sudden and start over heating. It all went away once I got my new radiator in. Are you losing any coolant?
No, I don't think I'm losing anything. At first I had a 21lb cap on there and all my hoses were leaking. I put my old 13lb cap on there and replaced the oem clamps with some good ones and it stopped leaking. My resoviour is fluctuating so there shouldn't be any air in there. I bleed it last night per honda instructions and same thing...no heat after its on for a few.... If i had a crack like you state, i would see some visable leaking i assume...my garage floor is dry.
Two things: check your air control vent and heater control valve. Check all hose connection again. Care to list your set up? Your car look sweet

Got to bring this thread back to life. Still having the same problem, no constant heat...really starting to bug me now. Also it seems to be almost impossible to bleed properly with this dumb *** radiator....there is no tank on the top so it the level drops at all in inhales air...been bleeding it for a few hours and still getting slight bubbles coming out. Anyways, I still get no heat after it blows hot for a few minutes. I suppose that the air bubbles could be the lack of heat..but I can't spend a week bleeding...something is just not right. I sprayed my compressor in the top heater line when the engine was out and coolant came pouring out the bottom..so the heater core is definetely not clogged. Does anyone have an image of a typer heater coolant line? I'm starting to consider maybe that the 97 Helms Typer supplement may be wrong? Really seems like there is a flow problem as my engine temp starts rising up also after a while, but if I put in the clutch and really rev it in nautural, the needle will quickly start going back down. I've traced the lines dozens of times..... I need to pressure test the coolant system. This newest install has all new coolant hoses in the bay, and a new water valve. Any got some ideas? No oil in the coolant, no coolant in the oil.

There is a flow control valve that is on the firewall and is norrmally controled by cable. The valve may be bad only letting a litttle coolant into the heater core and thats it. Or your heater core is shot. I doubt that your dual pass radiator has anything to do with the heat not coming out of the vents.

OT: is this a C&R radiator??? .... It's nice !!!
Back to topic.....check that cable up to the.....control valve, if broken it's easy to remove/replace.

Hey guys, the flow control valve is brand new. I checked and the cable is fully opening/closing it. Both hoses going in and out are hot. Actually, all the hoses I can find are all hot.....I just can't figure out why it's not flowing right. I'm starting to really consider maybe a bad OEM thermostat...it's 1 year old. Yes, it's a c&r radiator. I still can't believe it could be a clogged heater core as it easily poured out coolant when i sprayed air in the other port..... anything else.
Anyone have diagram of Type-R coolant hoses from a 98+ Helm Manual? I have the 97 Suppliment, and again..I'm considering it may be wrong. I've went over everything...still not cutting it.
