kyb strut/shock mount replacement
discription here
anybody have these? worth the money?
and what oem part does it replace?
While not always apparent, as the vehicle’s mileage climbs, its strut mounts often deteriorate. Therefore, when the struts are being replaced (especially on high mileage vehicles), it’s also the perfect time to replace the strut mounts in order to help restore the vehicle’s like-new ride quality.
and what oem part does it replace?

Re: kyb strut/shock mount replacement (Mt3c)
isn't that just the top shock cap/where the top of the spring seats to that top shock cap?
OEM would be #9 and I'd assume/hope the replacement comes w/ the rubber (#11)

Re: kyb strut/shock mount replacement (GSRaCeRbOI)
your in luck , i JUST got these parts today, from the pics on tireracks site i thought i was going to get part# 9 from the pic posted here, (even the box these little parts i just got has a pic of #9)
what i got was part #'s : 6, 7 (x2) , 14 and 15, a total of 5 pieces per side.
don't know if its "worth" it but i thought it was for the $10 i paid, i figure while i'm in there might as well replace. not going to cost me any extra effort, i'll let you know how it improved my ride after i put em in this weekend

Re: kyb strut/shock mount replacement (KidNRG)
if you buy new struts/shocks it comes w/ that nut (part # 18)
i just realized tirerack may have sent me the wrong part, i was suppossed to get the strut mount but got this little bag of parts (the ones i listed above) the part # on the box doesnt match the part # on the bag that was inside w/ the misc parts.
i emailed tirerack to try to solve the problem, hopefully they will take care of this problem asap because i planned to have this done this weekend and this was their goofup. they might have to overnite it on their dime.

Re: kyb strut/shock mount replacement (lucas569)
It should also come with a little red adjustment cap w/ the numbers 1-5 on it hehe im jp.
edit- btw, it doesn't come w/ that rubber that the top of the spring seats in, it probably should though, hell for the price we pay for these things, we should get the whole top assembly brand new

Re: kyb strut/shock mount replacement (lucas569)
#6, 14, and 15 are all metal.. metal washer/top/bottom and ID spindle so I don't really see a need for replacing those.. they kinda just sandwhich the rubber washers together w/ the ID sleeve (metal sleeve)... on my Koni's since the shock rod is larger diameter it came w/ new ones (because the stock ones won't fit over the larger shock rod)..I think thats the only reason why it came w/ new ones.. because its larger diameter on the Koni's... not sure... but on all the KYB installs i've done I re-used the metal washers and that rubber O-ring thing (#7)... same w/ all the installs my friends have done...
sounds like they sent you the hardware kit..especially if the P/N's don't match... cuz the strut mount IMO should be the top cap (#9).. dunnoz
also P/n #18 in the picture (the top nut..strut rod nut) comes in the baggie of hardware in the KYB's along w/ the lil screwdriver and what not.. pretty much all the brands of shocks I've installed before on my car or my friends cars have included a new top nut in the shock package/box..

heres from KYB's website:
http://www.kyb.com/shocks/boots.html
QUOTE: KYB Strut Mounts and Boots
Just like the lower ball joint on traditional rear-drive vehicles, the strut mount on a front-drive vehicle is a load-bearing component and it wears out over time. Replacing worn strut mounts and boots will ensure that your new struts and shocks perform at their best and give you full ride quality and service life. KYB strut mounts and boots feature construction and fit that meets or exceeds original equipment specs, and are available for most vehicles
heres KYB's explanation of strut mounts and boots:

from the pic.. looks like #9 to me..
QUOTE:
KYB Strut Mounts and Boots
KYB Strut Mounts and Boots are an integral part of proper strut service. They improve the quality of the installation while enhancing the safety and performance of your vehicle. KYB Strut Mounts and Boots meet or exceed OEM requirements. They are easy to install and available for both Domestic and Import vehicles
Strut mount benefits:
Acts as a "shock absorber" for the strut to further eliminate unwanted suspension travel
Aids alignment by adjusting wheel caster and camber
Helps keep vehicle on a straight and level path during hard braking
Helps eliminate body sway when cornering
Strut mount plays a vital role in improving the vehicles steering stiffness or a "quickspot" while turning the vehicle
Strut mounts play a vital role in improving the vehicles handling, ride control, alignment, braking, and steering. Just as the lower ball joint on traditional rear-drive vehicles, the strut mount on a front-drive vehicle is a load-bearing component that will wear out over time. When worn or damaged, the strut mount will adversely affect your vehicle's handling.
Trouble signs of worn or damaged strut mounts:
Clunking noise during normal driving conditions
Poor steering returns and/or roll or sway while turning
Vehicle bounces or sways sideways on rough, winding road
Abnormal rear end "squat" during acceleration
to Increased braking distance
Poor performance of ABS & Traction control systems
Abnormal nose dive when braking
heres some P/N's (for 95 Integra):
Manufacturer Part Number Description Price Details
SHOCKS, STRUT CUSHION/MOUNT
KYB SM5058 [FRONT STRUT MOUNT] *
KYB SM5058 [REAR STRUT MOUNT] *
KYB SM5166 [REAR STRUT MOUNT] REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM SHOCK BUSHING
