Default The $2000 question

I think for a winter project im goin to rebuild my motor. I have a 94 gsr with i/h/e and its just not enough any more . I dont want to do anything crazy b/c this is my daily driver. I think low 14s in the 1/4 mile is a good target to shoot for.

I want to spend about 2k including labor..

I dont feel like dicking with all the hastles of f/i...just a good all motor set up

I was thinking some cams, springs, retainers, vavles, pistons...what else?

$2000 including Labor??? Don't think you will get the results you're looking for with that. If you aren't doing the labor yourself its going to take some $money$ to pay for someone else to go tearing into your engine, and thats going to out alot of your funds.
Now for $2000 in just parts is more realistic if your looking for a noticable diff in power. New cams $600-$1000(depending on who you go with) Valve springs + Retainers + Camgears= $600 (ATLEAST). Piston Assym.=$300.
And you'll be looking at about another $1000 for labor atleast if you are doing a complete valvetrain and pistons.(Hope you have a hookup for Labor)

I disagree...somewhat. I mean yes if you're paying someone to do the work then $2k will not go all that far. If this is the case I'd spend it on the head and leave the bottom end alone for the time being. If you're not in a hurry to tear the car apart, then shop around for deals, this is what I did. Crower 63403 cams $425, springs and retainers $265, skunk2 cam gears $125. I'd never pay $600+ for cam gears...what a waste. With something like this though you could get a port & polish too and still stay close to your budget. Course you'd still need dyno time to tune...and I'd definately spring for a Vafc or hondata if you're going with aggresive cams. Then you know when/if you're ready for more power later you can just work on the bottom end...increase compression and you'll have a sweet NA car which would be compatible with NO2 if you so chose...keep your options open.
