Painting headlight question? Re-seal with Silicon or put back in oven?
Im about to paint my headlight housing either flat black or gunmetal. I have a few questions.
- How many minutes? Iv'e heard anywhere from 8 minutes to 12 minutes at 200 degrees...
- Re-sealing? Put back in oven or use silicon???
- What do you think...Gunmetal or black?
- I've also read you have to take your bumper off, is this true?
thanks...

2. I used clear silicon then used thick rubber bands to hold it together, then just let it dry, no oven time for me.
3. Either are good I went with a gunmetal color it looks nice about 5 coats.
4. Yes, take the bumper off its not hard and it makes it 10x easier
Happy baking

if i was to do it again, i would not paint the chrome inside because it will fade with the sun after a while. it's not hard to do though.
thanks guys...

Is getting the bumper off pretty easy?
EDIT: I'm refering to a 5th gen, I can't speak for newer models

my brother's lights look exactly like that. you dont want to paint where the turn signal is because the lights need to reflect and also i heard it gets hot and the paint will crack

Well, I finally did my lights. They look very nice, look for a step by step w/photos thread soon!

Congrats, thinking about doing the same thing, 99-00 civic owners have it soooo shitty, all black housings from anywhere are on back order. Can't wait to see how it turned out.
