i have 5th gen lude auto that i do not want to sell, i onlee have 31k on it and its a 98, i was wondering what would happen if i bought a manual tanny from a junk yard and do a conversion, if any problems will occur, and in the long run, also what parts do i need to part out from the lude from the wrecked one to do this? do i need the ecu also? thanks.

This kinda thing comes up all the time. Okay, it can be done. Can it be done cheaply? Maybe. It's been a while for me to look at a gauge cluster from a prelude but it might still show the whole Automatic pattern lit up. Before I go any further, is it a cable tranny or hydraulic? You will need an ECU cuz the ECU determines shift points in an Auto. Might have to get a different sized brake pedal pad also.. A Clutch might not fit in the current slot next to the dead pedal. I'd imagine get anything and everything tranny related outta the wrecked on... I haven't seen any long term problems with this conversion. Without knowing which tranny, that's all I can say for right now..

You'll need the transmission mounts, rear axle, ECU, Shift Linkage, Pedals, gearbox and for safe measure get a helms guide.. Those things are the ****. Anything else, just let me know.

Since it is a wrecked stock lude, I'm sure that it's a hydro tranny.

Basically, it's all in what shifts the gears. A cable tranny relies on, well, cables to get from gear a to gear b. A hydro uses some sort of pressure/pump to get a gear where it needs to go.

if you have a 98 Lude
and u pull it out of a wrecked 97+ Lude for sure it'll fit!!!!

cause in 97 they made a new Lude with the new body style and motor.
and that 97+ is a Hydro Tranny

as for the older ludes.
93-96
i think they started that gen lude in 93 or 94
any way those suckers as well are Hydro Tranny.

Hydro trannys are better than cable tranny
it shifts smooter and it can be abused more with harder grinding shifts.
also as well as the different gear ratios, and etc..

Ok even with all the parts needed, are there any modding required? Like shift linkage, the hole where the shifter comes up, any cutting needed?
