Default Wet vs Dry Nitrous

Ok I am running a 98 Honda Prelude S pure stock. I would like an increase in power for a low cost but I still want to keep the long life out of my engine. I heard going with a 50-75 shot of nitrous occasionally should not harm your car on stock internals. I guess I am confused in which way to go wet or dry. Also if anyone has some advice for a guy just starting out in which path to go to build a car without spending $10,000 on engine upgrades.

-Thanks

Well if you dont want to harm the engine I wouldnt use nitrous at all, or tubo or supercharger. But if you want more bang for the buck stick with the wet kit. Nitrous express sell an all import kit witch I ran on my car for some time. Wet kits spray nitrous and gas so it helps you not lean the car out. dry kits only spray nitrous and horsepower gains are not as realistic. If your going nitrous buy the wet kit get a bottle warmer and stick around the 50-75 shot witch on the nitrous express side is 50-70whp. Also get a bottle pressure gauge because if your not building he right amount of pressure you will not see these horsepower goals.

Just my 2 cents

Nitrous Express WET kit with the Purge/heater/gauge
The NX kits make more power than others because of their jets so when you run a 75 shot, its acting more like ANOTHER companies 100 shot.
I would start off small and work your way up......starting with a 35 shot wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Spark plugs are a key component to a healthy setup and making sure your compression test results come out good is also.
I feel its my job to say: If you can't afford another motor, you have no business playing with Nitrous. Nitrous is fun as hell, but it CAN blow up your motor.
I speak from experience, but after my incident my learning curve went through the roof.
The 1st pic is an example of NO Traction with a 100 shot on a pretty stock H22!
Imagine how that Corvette owner felt when I started to pass him at the 1/8 mile!
This is what happenes when you have a couple of bad spark plugs and hit fuel cutoff! Sometimes you have to DIE to live a better life.....
Detonation is a b!tch.......

Well that helps out a lot thanks guys. I guess I was looking for some direction and I got it.

This is very true "I feel its my job to say: If you can't afford another motor, you have no business playing with Nitrous."

Do you have any good sites for the nitrous kits? If I was to protect my engine more in a nitrous installation what other parts are recommended to install in the engine?

^
1 step colder plugs
a tune up would be great too.
and depending on how big of a shot, you could retard the ignition timing a little

MSD Dig6 FTW!
Retards timing and does an ignition rev limit instead of fuel.......

Ive been running my zex kit at the track all summer with no problems whatso ever, its a dry 55 shot......1 step colder ngk's ignition timing retarded 1 degree at the distributor and its all good.well at least so far....I also have a warmer and pressure gauge. I want to get it dyno tuned though.....so I have a nice street tune.....I only use it at the track.

I had nitrous thinking the same thing as you. I wanted something cheap that wouldn't low up my engine. Nitrous is not the answer. Use that sucker for like 1 min total and its gone and you have to spend 40 bucks to get it filled. second, you will blow your motor. it may take time, but with stock everything its bound to happen. I found myself being excited when using it and missing gears yada yada. I got lucky and nothing happened, but i have a fairly built motor. Probably won't be so lucky with stock stuff.

I found myself being worried everytime i used it. it was fun though.

That being said i have a zex dry shot kit for sale that i used on my 93 jdm vtec. that would mean everything is cut and ready to fit for you. even has a full bottle. I have only my lude for transport, and lots of school, so i couldn't afford breaking my car.

Well, about 200lbs of Nitrous later running from a 60-100shot my motor is still fine....(Not to mention 1500-2000 RR miles and about 100 dyno pulls)
It all comes down to tuning and the current state of your engine. I blew up a motor my 2nd bottle on an 80 shot but since I have been through 20 bottles with not even a tiny sign of detonation.
If youre going to be worried about using Nitrous you shouldnt be using it......
I accepted a long time ago that one day I may go out, spray, and POP! I won't be mad though(as I wasn't last time) because I have the money to fix what I break.
If you planning to have any fun with cars(it doesn't matter what it is) you have to be ready for the worst.
BTW: My motor is a stock JDM H22A with a little headwork!
I have made 267whp with a conservative tune and had tons of fun with it!

IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD A NEW MOTOR YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS PLAYING WITH UNCLE GIGGLES!
Same goes for people boosting stock H22s......

have a friend jdm gsr(stock block) 75 shot i/h/e, 235whp/205wtq tuned wet shot, got to love the tq you get from nitrous , that same kit was on my friends bb6 didn't have time to tune it though it crashed . Tuned a lude on stock block can easily take 100 shot.
