Default California Engine Swap Smog Information

Here it is! This is all the info on engine swaps I could get from the state. Looks like my b16a in my integra is a legal replacement and I dont need to see the ref after all if i can convince the smog tech with this info at my next smog check.

so you have a BAR stamp on the side of your car? it clearly says on it a few times that you need a smog ref to stamp a sticker on your car saying its legal.

no i dont have a sticker yet and thats why i requested this info. But if you read the apendix it says that a "replacement" motor which does not require a sticker would by one that is from the same family and has the same number of cylinders bla bla bla so it could be possible for my b16a to be considered a "replacement" since all the old smog equipment from my b18a is on it, the 2 motors are from the same family, are wired exactly the same (obd-0), and are over all very similar. I would just have to convice the guy doing the smog check that it is a replacement so he wont send me to the ref.

You can request this info at that phone number on the back of the brochure.

i guess... but if you ever get pulled over by a cop and he pops yer hood... it wont be worth it. might as well legalize your swap, its only like $20 for a whole lot of piece of mind.

Actually it's $30 plus $8.25 for the certificate...
