Question for ya folks
does anyone know if the OBD2.5 version engines..
1999-2001 GSR engines specifically...
have different sensors than the OBD2 engines from the 96-98 years?
my speedometer and temperature gauge is acting all screwy....
as soon as you turn the key and give the car some voltage...
the needles jump up to about 40% of the full range...
i can't figure it out...
the car isn't moving and it says i'm going 45 MPH
and the car isn't even on, and the temp is between cold and the middle...
any ideas?
stumped and scratching my *****.... opps, i mean my head

I checked out some numbers: for a 1998 verses a 2000 GS-R
Water temp thermosensor is the same p/n
The VSS speedo unit is the same p/n
I would say that rules out the possibility of different sensors causing this problem.
I'm guessing a possible short somewhere in the wires as well.
Only way I've ever checked the proper operation of the thermostat and coolant pump is by taking them off the engine. Otherwise if you start a cold engine you can tell when the thermostat opens up by touching the upper rad. hose. It will turn very warm, very quickly when the thermostat opens. You could check that the coolant pump is circulating coolant by splicing a clear tube in-line one of the heater core hoses. Personally I would still inspect then off of the engine.
