Default where to place oil return line on oil pan?

i know im supposed to tap into it at the highest possible place on the pan, but are there any more guidlines? ive heard that placement is almost everything, so im assumign something as important as an oil return assembly is a bit more complicated than "as high as possible".

I might as well say this before members beat you to death with it, but did you do a search at all? is this a kit or a custom turbo. reason I'm asking is most kits position the compressor side of the turbo towards the passenger side of the car. if it is as stated above, I tapped mine directly inline with the drain which means it is in the shallow portion of the pan. I grinded a little of the baffle down so it wouldn't obstruct flow. seems to work out fine for me. if the compressor is facing the driver side of the car you can tap into the deep side no problem because there really isn't any obstacles in the way such as the downpipe. this is my theory and it works out well for me. there isn't an exact place the drain has to go, as long as it is as high as possible, it does not angle up before the draining into the pan, and it does not lean against the downpipe. just eyeball it. don't feel bad if it doesn't come out right the first time. on my first install it took me 4 times to get it right but I'm not going to talk about that.

when you meant "test fit" it, you mean a clear path like the line goes straight from the turbo to the pan, not like around this and through that, etc. right?

i mean install yor mani+turbo+dp and leave yor oil pan on, then mark a spot to tap it so the return line doesnt hit anything on its way down. if yor using ss braided lines, then those arent very flexible so u dont want it to hit anything.
