Default Reverse idler gear...is this right? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Is this interlock mounted right? The way it is now the reverse idler gear is all the way down and not meshed with any other gears. Its actually touching the top of the bottom gear...kinda resting on it. Is that mounted right. The bolt for the interlock is mounted in the grove, but I was unsure how the whole setup went back together in that lower area.
Pics are kinda shitty but oh well.

The bolts for the reverse idler gear arm are not in right now, but it sits the same way regardless

do you have anything between the trans housing and the floor/workbench?

if not it will make your mainshaft stick up higher, causing your idler gear to rub against 1st gear on the mainshaft.

that is true. Also, on the lower parts of the shafts, there are if i recall 3 that form a C shape. Then the interlock with that bronze peice in the middle with the bolt going through the shaft to turn it. Is the interlock and the bronze peice suposed to be in a straight line in the C of the other shafts?

things I do for people, like late night pics on trannys on the workbench

The interlock guide bolt from the clutch side, it gets install AFTER the countershaft has been locked in and case sealed and bolted together.

Another hint about reverse idler gears, the pointy teeth.....

BauleyCivic, a admin/moderator here didn't listen a few years ago while I was teaching him......

he inserted the bolt and it bent the shift arm.......(arm is flipped 180 degrees to show damage) locks it into gear, shifting is not possible, reason I bench shift EACH tranny.

I had warned him.......since because when I was a tranny newbie I did exactly the same thing!

Old D series shift linkage made into bench shifter

i replaced a main shaft bearing for a friend and was sure i did it right but when we put the tranny in it would go into gear when the car was off and when it was moving but when u came to a stop and tried for first u had to cut the car off.also never would go into reverse. i still havnt had the heart to take it back apart yet but maybe this was the problem. ill probably just trash it

Thanks guys, those pics would have been super helpful. I put it together that night and everything worked smooth. Super quiet, and changes gears perfect.

That was my first tranny to ever rip apart and put together. I pondered how the interlock went together for a good 2hrs. Then got pissed and pulled apart the b series tranny I had sitting in my room and found out it was right.

Actually, I installed the interlock bolt in the clutch housing first. I dont know, it seemed easier to me to see it go in while the case was off and make sure it was in.

Mista Bone, those are awsome pics. Thanks alot!
