Default Car MP3 player

What is the best car MP3 player available. I am thinking about getting the Pioneer DEH-8400mp. Is that a good buy or do you have other suggestions?

Pioneer DEHP9400, 8400 or 7400 (Premier 940, 840, 740) are all excellent choices. I think the deciding factor is how big of a screen you want, do you like the 8400's dual-flip display, and what price is right.

Well, I'm looking for a new deck too. I read a few reviews about the 7400, general concencus was that it was great deck but took too long read mp3's.

Don't know if this applies to the others.

The 740/7400's have about a 4 second delay between mp3 tracks.

I've heard that the 840/8400 does not have such problem. But I tested the 8400mp yesterday and turns out that it takes at least 3 seconds between mp3 tracks as well.

The minor things that bothers me personally about pioneer mp3 decks:
1. The long delay between mp3 tracks which is slightly annoying to some.
2. Only 8 character display in the display window which is really stupid.
3. No auto-scroll. You'll have to press a button for 2 secs in order to manually let the song info scroll if info is longer than 16 characters. *Not 100% sure on this one.
4. 8400 is silver, doesn't go well with the black interior of my car.

Other than that, pioneer is an excellent choice since it has so many functions.
If Pioneer fixed the auto-scroll and 8 character display limit, it'd be the most perfect HU in the world.

the upper model Pioneer units 8400 and 9400 are nice as are the Premier units... the Alpine 7995 is also a good mp3 head unit.. I'm considering either getting that or getting a 6 disc changer since I have an Alpine system but want Mp3 compatibility.. I'll probaby get the changer though instead of a new head unit..

I've got the 8400 its pretty cool. I really don't care too much about the delay between tracks, but what really pisses me off about it is that the random, is not all that random. Out of a 180 song cd, I'll end up hearing a whole ton of certian songs, while never hearing others, other than that, no complaints. If you don't want to replace your head unit, I've seen some units that work like a cd changer(trunk mount), except they are hard drives, Best Buy has one that is 10gb for about 450$.
