loose shifter..
I dont really know what to call it, but the shift linkage bushing i guess just like dissapeared. Anybody have this problem before

that bushing right in there decided to call it quits on me. its hasport shift linkage, and its only like a year old. And the shifter is looser than an old ****, it feels horrible.

If you look at the picture the guy posted, its actually showing you how to remove the linkage...you need to use a punch (forget the size off hand) and wack the "bitch pin" out. There is a lock ring that goes over the bitch pin, and then a rubber dust cover that goes over it all. In the picture, the dust cover, and lock ring have allready been removed and he is ready to knock out the bitch pin.

Well i want it to be stiff but would injecting polyurethane prevent it from doing its job? Remember its basically a hinge and still needs to move around alot and freely. But not too much. And not to freely. I was thinking of dremeling the rivets off, getting the old bushing out, making a new one out of polyurethane (but using the old one too so i know exactly what size to make it) and putting it back together, but what would i hold it back together with, would a screw and nut work on there?
I had the same problem it kinda deteriorates over time. I got some newer shift linkage and cannabolized it for parts. You have to grind both sides till the weld/rivet is gone and then hammer the pin through. It will all come apart then, do the same to the new setup and take the bushing out you need then get a 8mm bolt and locking nut that is long enough to go through to replace the welded pin/rivet.
make sure its a locking nut so it wont come loose. you can put it so the bolt is facing down and the nut is on the bottom. if somehow the nut falls off Im sure is going to be really hard for a 3" long bolt to move up enough to fall out. if you are paranoid just put a tack weld on the top and bottom. Also lube it up with a lot of grease and or anti-seize inside. This is also great because you dont have to deal with the bitch pin anymore, just unbolt it.
noo im not talking about replacing the bitch pin.. im talking about replacing the rivet in that gold hinge with a bolt and nut.. but i guess itd be pretty much the same thing. As long as the bolt is just as wide as the rivet hole though, any smaller and itll have a lot of play in the shifter..any bigger and yea duh.
I replaced the bitch pin long long ago
i think everybody should.. its pretty retarted not to. Any ups to having the bitch pin there instead of a bolt and nut?

I was not talking about the bitch pin replacing with a bolt, that you should not do there will be play, I AM talking about the piece you are talking about, it also takes a 8mm bolt there will not be any play if done right, the bushings you will replace prevent that.

I have had the same problem for a long time, and I always thought about grinding the rivets off and relpacing it with a bolt. It would make it easy to remove shiftlinkage AND fix the problem at the same time. You could always make your own bushings out of some rubber or something too and install them where the green arrows are.... now if I can ever get around to actually doing it.
