bypass valve
Without bypass (extreme circumstance):
Drive car.
Car on road.
Car hit deep puddle.
Filter get soaked.
Water go into engine.
Hydrolock.
With Bypass Valve:
Drive car.
Car on road.
Car hit deep puddle.
Filter get soaked.
Water no go in engine.
Bypass valve draws in air, not filter.
Drive car.
Laugh at puddle.
Drive car.
Car on road.
Car hit deep puddle.
Filter get soaked.
Water go into engine.
Hydrolock.
With Bypass Valve:

yeah i know what they do, but i want to know how they work.
It's kinda like a second filter for the CAI. If the first one, the one closest to the ground, gets soaked, then the bypass valve "becomes" the new filter. It just has these flaps on the inside that open up if the main filter isn't doing it's job because it's soaked.
