swap in an ls1 or ls2 or ls6 or ls7 engine.

or you can buy a stroker kit (2.2, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7) and an EMS.

not a "power" upgrade, but a quicker acceleration at lower revs can be achieved with final drive gears. 4.44, 4.56/7, 4.77, 4.9, 5.10

Yeah, but then you gotta deal with high revs on the highway. IMO its not practical for a daily once you get much past the 4.56 mark.

If you want easy low end torque, you're not really looking at the right car. It's not really that bad, though. Go drive one. I mean you can't step out of a camaro from the camaro dealership (where you can trade in all your money for a camaro) and feel right at home...but the stock F20/22 definitely gets the job done.

You can turbo it. With a relatively small turbo, you can get some good low end. But then you gotta deal with a lot of other stuff.

ive never seen a s2000 with over 4.77 gears. i cant imagine how 4.9 or 5.1 gears would be on a boosted s2000 or even a stock one

I have seen a 4.9 in a draft s2000 in a mag but not in real life. That would be crazy with a boosted engine. tops speed of what 100mph.. jk

4.9's and 5.10's are great for road course and auto-x scenarios on an NA s2k.

You want torque, get a V8. Honda's live on high rpm and horsepower, not torque.

the j's racing yellow s2000 has 5.1 i believe.
low end torque on the ap1/2 motor is a joke.
go throw in a 14b eclipse turbo but you'll fall flat on your face by 5000 rpm.
maybe a garrett "disco potato" setup would help

I'm sure Chevy shares the same feelings

Can you point out a more reliable V8? Dont get me wrong, I believe that almost all american cars are junk but the chevy ls line-up is pretty stout and reliable.

look into 4.56 or 4.57 gears. The end acceleration is greatly increased.

If you want pure TQ numbers, you need a stroker motor or some type of FI.

Reliable V8s are highly debatable as to which is best . Any American V8 properly built will last 100K plus miles with proper maintenance. Some will argue Toyota as well. It'll be quite expensive to put a small block in an S, Chevy and Ford small blocks will be the least costly. That's 289 to 351 cubic inches to those of you not familiar... Frame and drivetrain mods are obviously necessary. I think I'd just go with the rear end gears and live with it.

Something I believe in as well! Proper maintenence on a car that 'isn't so reliable' can go a long wayssss with the proper owner!

Sorry I missed the sarcasm. I was serious. If you can fit a small-block in a miata, you can fit one in an S.
