I hear it comes in a bottle, brought by a man in a blue shirt and dickies pants. From the east, always from the east.

try upgrading to a larger final drive gear like 4.56 or 4.77. It doesn't add more torque to the engine, but makes better use of it, your gas mileage will go down though because you will be running a higher rpm in each gear.

you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. gas mileage will be the same.

Not to argue, but help me clarify this...

AP#1 runs 4.1 @ 3700RPM @ 80MPH
AP#2 runs 4.56 @ 4700RPM @ 80MPH
AP#3 runs 4.77 @ 5300RPM @ 80MPH

You're saying all MPG are the equal?

Thanks.

Sorry, let me be a little bit more constructive for those who don't know where I'm getting at:

RPM stands for Revolution Per Minute, each revolution is combustion. Each combustion requires air/fuel/spark. Higher the gear, higher the RPM, higher combustion rate, thus more fuel required to sustain an equivelent speed when all other variables are constant.

Running 4.56/7/.77 is going require a tad bit more fuel and less MPG when you're next to your buddy on a road trip.

I know, it's car 101 - so no flamers but to help those who are trying to help others (i.e. two threads up).

Roughly equal, because it's a combination of throttle position, load, and rpm.

My S is a daily driver, rough comparison over a period of months - how come I'm burning through an average of 1 bar faster each week then before the 4.56 gear change?

Maybe because your right foot likes the new response a little TOO much?

LOL! Only at first...

Like I said, given all other variables are constant including throttle %. It's all relative, two cars at 35% open throttle in 6th gear on cruise control - you won't lose say 10 MPG but gas milage will NOT be the same.

Had to do a search because I could be wrong...

FYI, other threads are saying city driving has no affect but highway does. I'm guessing it all depends how you drive in the city but MPG will be affected regardless on the HWY.

I take into account mixed driving (SoCal ), amount of mileage per tank, and amount at fill up.

4.1 @ 3700RPM @ 80MPH = injector spray gas 3700 times
4.56 @ 4700RPM @ 80MPH = injector spray gas 4700 times
4.77 @ 5300RPM @ 80MPH = injector spray gas 5300 time

so your telling us it would be the same amount?

yeah and so is saving a penny a day for the rest of your life... yeah youll have a **** load of pennies but who cares cuz there worth little...

yeah your RPMs will be higher at said speeds but you car will also be more efficient getting to those speeds... it basically works itself out, but just for arguments sake, itll be slightly lower... and im talking slightly... is it really that noticable, not really. is the mod worth it, hell yeah. is an extra $0.50 per fill up gonna kill ya, prolly not... enjoy the mod for what it is and what it will do for you...

and to the OP GTFO idiot

Whoa, chill brotha. We're just trying to be politically correct by saying that changing to a higher ratio will change your gas mileage. I think we agree, either the change is minor or major - everyone's paradigm on .50 or $5 at the pump is in their own opinion given their personal circumstances.
