Painting Car: Help
So this summer I plan on painting the outside of my eg just to try and learn. I just wanted to get some tips from those who are experts or have done this before. The car only has like 2 dents...
1) What kind of bando should I buy to fill this?? How exactly do you put it on?
2) When sanding the car down, what sandpaper grade should i be using? Dry Sand? or wet sand?
3) I hear that when mixing the paint u use reducer, paint and hardener for the whole body except for bumpers (to give it some flexibility)
4) Is a coat of primer really necessary before paint??
Any tips to get me started....I am familiar with the procedure for the most part, but I guess I want to know the things to avoid doing to make the job easier.
Any help is appreciated

Anyone?
I read some stuff that said the best way to start is by using wet/ dry 400 grade sand paper.....
then move on to primer the car and sand that down with 600 grade
wash off the car, make sure all the grease is done
do all the masking for parts that dont need to be painted
i couldnt find much on what bondo to use in case the ding puller dont work

Umm dont believe everything that you hear, because have of the things you jus listed arent true. Yes obviously you would want to fix the dents use minimal bondo...depending on where the dents are and how big they are. If they are big then try and popping them out, and then smooth it out with a coat of plastic. Make sure you then sand it with 80 grit and 220 grit. Primer the whole car and sand wetsand with 400. (Make sure you use 2-3 good coats or primer in between.) Then pick a color and then use a base coat, clear coat , and preferably chromabase.
thanks for the help....when painting, how many base coats are recommended? how much time in between them?? how about for clear coats??

usually three base coats, depending on the weather (65-70 ideally) about 15-20 minutes...and you wanna do about 2 clear coats

Painted my car for the first time back about 2 1/2 years ago. Never painted before and was taking an autobody class. Came out VERY WELL! Best thing to do is to get a book on autobody. Since then I have painted many other cars and getting better and better everytime.
Here is my Accord the first time I sprayed it.

Also you don't have to primer the whole car you can just use a sealer like I did.

Second time:

By the way I use PPG products. Lays down well and has a hell of a shine

alright, i didnt want to make another thread cuz its just a quick question. im guna have an auto body shop paint the exterior of a dc2. but i want to sand it down my self. from what i have heard you would go from 60-80-120-180-220 and then wet + dry with 1000grit or w/e after the primer coat. is that true? reasoning because i have a buddy that is in the auto body shop class in school and i dont want to dish out 2gs to get the car painted. i would try and paint it my self but i donth ave the materials and i would really only use it this time.
thanks.
thanks.

I get a really good deal with PPG. I am actually going to pick some up back in my hometown Savannah next week. They give me great deals on paint! Let me know if you need some paint.
And thanks for the comment. Goodluck with yours.
