Default VAFC - should I bother?

Sorry about the cross posting but I'm not sure how many of the Prelude guys visit the general Tech forum. Maybe I can get more feedback here. Forgive me if this is a stupid question..
I'm contemplating purchasing a VAFC for my Prelude. I only have CAI and no plans to go H/E route. Maybe pullies in the future. Would I benefit from the VAFC with this setup? I know that the consensus is to get I/H/E, maybe P and then VAFC. But if I can perhaps gain some hp and smoothout the power curve by adjusting the VTEC x-over and maybe lean out the fuel mixture a little, would it be worth getting one?

I think a VAFC plus dyno tuning (that's most important!) would help anyone with a VTEC equiped lude. I have seen dyno plots where the car totally fills in the 48-5200 rpm 'flat spot' right before the VTEC changeover. It doesn't gain a lot of peak power but you can really fill in the dips in the power band!

That's what I was thinking too.. of course it would help if I had H/I/E/P .. but even the benefit of getting that "before VTEC dip" smoothed out is enough to warrant $400cnd.. to me anyway..

I think a vafc will do more then just "lift that flat spot". It does but honda's are known for running rich at high rpms. good for the enviroment, bad for horse power. If you got access to a wideband a/f meter you could lean out your top end and see a increase in hp. I'm telling you this cuz I got a brand new one in box for sale , asking for $300 usd

Good price. They're on group buy for 299 as well.

yup, mine showed a 12.5hp gain between 4000rpm and 4800rpm. the power curve is smooth now. you can't even feel it when vtec kicks in ... you just feel a hard pull . i think it's worth the money. i lost 0.5hp peak, but also gained 1hp in the low range from 1000 to 3000rpm. i also leaned the fuel out up until 5000rpm, although i think i should have made it rich after 4000. oh wells... my VTEC kicks in at 4400 now. the only down side to that is freeway driving... if you want to cruise at 80mph it's gonna be in VTEC and there goes your fuel..... but who cares anyway right.
