Default H23 crank and rods in an h22?

Everyone talks about an h22 head on h23 block. This fails cause of the accessories of the h22 that the h23 lakcs (like piston squirters).

So would you be able to drop an h23 crank and rods into an h22? Would they fit?

No... Im saying an h22 head on an h23 block fails because the h23 lacks piston squirters, amongst other things. What if you took an h22 long block, and install an h23 crankshaft and rods in it. Kind of like a stroker kit, but a stroker kit derived from an h23.

Understand what im saying?

Ive heard of it being done before, but i do know the squirters have to be modified a little.

In theroy is what your trying to do making a 2.3displacement h22a?
If so are all the clearance issues alright with the valves and such seeing as you are making the stroke longer....?

the h22/h23 hybrid is a highly unreliable motor. yes, the h23a block does not have the oil squirters, but this is not the main reason it fails so frequently. the h23a block, i believe, actually has notches that you can add the squirters if you wanted to. now i THINK the block has it, i remember reading an article on this stating that you could, if im mistaken, please correct me. as far as swapping out h23a and h22a parts, **** that. i wouldnt waste my time or money on swapping out stock internals, get some crower and JE internals i do see your theory though....

Well the H22/23 doesn't really fail because of the lacking accessories, the oil squirters for example mainly help keep piston temperatures down at hight RPMs. The H23 block and the H22 block both have provisions for oil squirters since both blocks are from the exact same mold, you can transfer the squirters but modification is needed as there is not enough clearance because of the crank. The main problem is the fact that you're spinning a "big stroke" motor very high (7,500rpm), your piston speeds become dangerously high, also taking into consideration the horrible rod ratio of the H23 in the area of 1.53. Piston failure isn't the problem, it's the rod and crank assembly that can't take that abuse....for very long. I've talked to a few people who did the conversion retaining the oil squirters, oil cooler, ect. Sure the motor starts up fine and produces awesome power throughout the RPM range, but I have yet to hear of one lasting longer than a few thousand miles, weather it is an H23 with an H22 head or the H23 rotating assembly in an H22.
My opinion: Awesome idea for a dedicated drag application, bad idea for a daily driver/street car.

I remember reading somewhere that the H23 crank isnt as strong as the new H22 crank

about the "not lasting more than a few thousand miles" thing. I highly suggest calling Top Fuel and asking them about their stroker kit for the h22a. It's not as expencive as you think. I ordered the kit allready and am waiting for the parts via boat from japan (slow as hell). anyone else running this in the US? I may be the first...

You can use the H23 or F22 reciprocating assembly in the H22 block, increasing the stroke to 95mm from 90.7, making 2259cc. You should not rev as high as you would with H22 stroke. If you really have to rev higher, get forged pistons and billet rods, and balance the assembly when assembling the short block. You could then safely rev higher, but don't push it. When a rod breaks, it takes a lot of things with it. Inertial loads go up exponentially with RPM.

I will be building something similar soon, sleeved to 89mm with the 95mm stroke (2364cc), going into a 5th gen Civic coupe.

Yes i've seen their stroker kit, along with the others for the H22 platform. What I was stating was that the H23 assembly in an H22 doesn't last long, much like the LS/VTEC. Sure you can buy a custom kit for the H22 and it possibly work fine, but as for retrofitting (making it work) the H23 bottom end with the H22, don't bother.

How much is the Top Fuel stroker kit? This might finally get me to decide if I should molest the bottom end or the head first.

wbesite is http://www.topfuel.to i think... they will only talk to you if you speak japanese. but they were very patient with me (my japanese is not so good). as far as buying the kit, call Steve Su and Racing Trendz 541-345-6634 and tell him Brooke sent you. he'll hook you up for all those real JDM connections.
