SI tranny question. 3rd gear sucks.. who else?
i am taking my car into honda in a few days for an oil change and to have them check out my 3rd gear. it has been screwing up more and more over the past month or so. i know alot of people have been having troubles with getting into 3rd gear. im not just talking about when the car is cold, but when cruising, racing, etc. 3rd gear is just not very fun. if anyone else has taken their car to honda and had the tranny rebuilt under warranty, or replaced for that matter, please let me know.
a dealer likes to tell u that they cant recreate the problem, therefore they cant justify it being covered under warranty and fixing the problem. so anyone else who has gone through this, i would greatly appreciate any advice on getting this solved as quickly and easily as possible.
also, what was the downtime while getting it fixed? my hatch died, so i only have the si for the time being, and didnt wanna be without a car for too long. lemme know. and thanks in advance guys!!!

Its been covered quite a few times buddy...

Repair process is going to vary from dealer to dealer and from car to car. If the dealership cant duplicate that problem they wont fix it... only way to properly diagnose a car is to duplicate the problem so the tech knows EXACTLY whats going on with it. This way they can fix it right the first time and not have you coming back later on for the same thing or even something worse. My car has done it a couple times but I'm more attentive when changing into 3rd now and make sure that the clutch pedal goes all the way down before i shift completley... has solved the problem for me.

i do try to make sure that the pedal is all the way down before i shift. it still feels like its in, but u have to back it out and push it in again for a double pop and then its in gear. i know that there are other posts about this topic, but i was hoping we could kind of get the outcome of each post into one thread.
i appreciate the links, but i was hoping that those who had this problem and took it to the dealer and got it fixed would post here and give some advice on the easiest way to fix it. im ordering my short shifter this week, but im taking it to honda to have them look at it first before i put it on. so all those who have had their tranny rebuilt/replaced... what did u say to them? did u take them for a test drive? etc. thanks again, and again yes i know about the search function. i used it a few minutes before i started this thread to get all the info on the reflash since i will be having them do that as well while its in there

Re: (95turbodteg)
I just grinded 3rd after wot from 2cd gear this morning but that hasent happend for a while it really pisses me off when it happens and i was sure the clutch was all the way down. I thought honda trannys were flawless but i guess not it dosent happen often tho just once in a while so i cant say its a constant problem but if enough people get the tranny replaced i will take mine in as well.

Nothing can be 100% flawless 100% of the time.
I have been getting the same issue from time to time. Like Tre said above, I am more aware of shifting to 3rd. I feel the shifter going into 3rd prior to releasing the clutch and I make sure to press it down further when shifting.

At some points, I can feel when it din't go into gear and can tell it is about to grind. To prevent it:
-I push the clutch back in
-Pull the shifter out of 3rd
-Put the shifter back into 3rd (making sure it felt that it went into gear)
-Release clutch
95% of the time it works and no grinding occurs. However, I do feel like this is an issue I will have the dealer correct.
