Trouble getting in gear.
I have recorded 6 times in my usual city stop-go driving, that when I'm idle at the stoplight (in neutral) and then green light go, I for some strange reason can not get the dang thing in 1st gear. I mean it will absolutely refuse to go!!!! I can shift it in 2nd and then back into 1st and then finally I can get into gear. I think there has to be some sort of safety from accidently down shifting into 1st at high engine speeds that has gone out of wack.
Irregardless I'm taking it to the dealer when I get some time off.
****! Forgot to say what kind of Civic; '06 LX sedan.
And yes I know how to drive a manual transmission. Hee-Hee Ho-Ho!

I get that occasionally on my 06 Si.
WHen i'm at a light i usually just pop around the gears.. all of them
no specific order but seems to minimize 2nd gear grinding AND keep it from locking out 1st

when at the stoplight jiggle the stick from left to right in the neutral postion for a bit then shift it into first.. if it wont go in drop it in 2nd then 1st. thats what i usually do

yup same thing is happing to me. Check the pedal free play (amount of travel until you feel force) alot of free play wont let the clutch disengage and cause hard shifts. is 3rd a little rough. On my car i have to get a new Slave cylinder the piston in there get stuck and because of the piston doesnt release.

As far as getting into first, totally normal dont worry about it. Reverse will do the same thing from time to time. Just put the car into, third and back out and things will line up right. my toyota did the same thing from the first month I had it.

I just want to confirm that I too have problems shifting into third. It feels like i'm there and then I hit the gas and it slips out and makes a nasty grinding noise.

Thanks for the input...Probably just a new bodystyle/powertrain bug. They will most likely take care of that problem for the '07's...Lets hope
I've got almost 5k miles on my si now and I still get the 3rd gear thing sometimes. Some people had said that the comptech short shifter fixes the problem. Anyone confirm that?
I took my car to the shop yesterday and told them about the issues with third gear and what not, and the other issues I was having. Anyway, they ended up ordering a spring for the transmission, so hopefully this fixes the issue with the transmission and I can shift into all the gears smoothly. Waiting for them to call me back and let me know when to bring my car back in.
I was looking into the short shifter, but I wasn't sure if it would cause more problems with shifting (g/f is having a hard enough time shifting already...).
What's funny is that the Civic Si that I test drove (not the one I bought) had a hard time shifting into 3rd (in other words, it ground into 3rd with the clutch fully depressed). It seems that's a pretty common problem, but thankfully mine isn't displaying that problem.
