If you have plans for boost, or plans for a build i would suggest getting the d16z6 as there is much more aftermarket support for the 1.6.
If you dont really have any plans after the swap, you can't really go wrong with either. Whichever one you have access to.
But a quick search would result in more answers

the d16z6 is essentially the same motor as the d15b but you will never find a low mileage d16z6 that hasnt been beat to hell and back..turbo the d15b on low boost and you should have a 14 second car..i ran a 15.2 in my 89 si with shot tires and a slipping clutch.. the guy next to me was in a eg with a z6 and he ran a 17.8 but i dont think he was driving. you could easily get into the high 13's with a turbo d15b.... the d15b head is the same head as the z6 the ecu that the d15b comes with gives it the extra bump in horsepower...the d15b is a vx block with a z6 head with a bump in compression. you can rev the crap out of a d15 because of its short stroke
the z6 is usually always beat to hell before someone does a swap the d15b is only 450 bucks plus shipping with low mileage...i couldnt find a d16z6 under 100k im not going to swap something with a 100k on it thats just stupid. and there is no diffrence in cams or heads for that matter beetween the z6 and the d15b it is the ecu and the bump in compression that make the d15b have more ponies

Which is why you're supposed to do a complete tune up before you swap a new engine in.

i actually saw the front clip my d15b came out of...the car had an automatic transmission and 45,000 on the clock...i cant even hear my motor run....im still running the plugs and wires the car came with lol

the z6 ones work just fine as do the wires...i also used a d15z1 timing belt it is the same belt....every part for the z6 will work except the t belt....the head is the same head do not believe this crap i hear on hear about there being a better cam in the head..it is the ecu that gives this motor more hp than the z6 it has more agressive maps....the block is basically a 1.5 with vx rods and a piston of its own...i love my d15b i would never buy a junk z6 that has 100xxxx who knows miles on it..if you can verify mileage yeah buy a z6 for aftermarket support
