what are the main differences between having a car dyno and street tuned. is dyno tuning really worth the extra money over street tuning with a good tuner?

 

Street tuning is nice because it's "real world" and the tuner can adjust for your driving style etc. However, he also has to tune it conservatively because there's no real way to tell if advancing the timing is helping you out any or touching up a bit on the fuel map is making the car better or worse.

That's where the dyno comes in, the tuner can fine tune the car so that it makes the most power possible and he/she can also do high gear pulls safely. IE the car doesn't move on a dyno, on the street a 4th gear pull he'll be tuning at speeds of around... oh... 120mph.

I always thought it would be best to dyno tune for WOT and street tune for part throttle/ city driving.

 

If you have a Wideband o2 and a EGT gauge/probe then your set on doing the street tune only downside its not as safe as being on a dyno (other cars, having to stop before you need to etc.).

Being on a dyno you see how much power you are making, no worries about traffic, or other cars and get to see where your max power and torque is and best VTEC crossover.

 

well it just depends on who tunes your car in a dyno, because I know some tuners will abuse your engine and not give it the proper rest time between pulls because they get paid by the hour, if you dyno have someone you feel confident with doing it, because from experience when you sign the release form, you are basically giving them the green light to tune to full power without the fear of blowing your motor. Just my .02 cents
