Clutch disc for b-series that *doesn't* suck?
Last night, I dropped my tranny to investigate a clutch problem, and I found that my ACT XTSS had failed... A spring had come out of the clutch disc, which I found quite dissapointing, because the whole reason that I paid $500 to upgrade to the XTSS was to avoid this particular problem (it replaced an Exedy that had a spring failure). I got less than a year and a half of use on it.
So, now I'm wondering if there is a B-series clutch that engages smoothly and doesn't have this spring problem. Any suggestions?
The car is a turbo B18B, making around 260 whp and 240 torque, with a GS-R tranny. It is a NASA/SCCA road course car, so I'm not exactly dropping the clutch and doing drag launches with it, but it does see a lot of heat. I definately need smooth shifts and a non-broken drivetrain, so a sprung disc seems to be a must, but I'm worried about running into this problem again.
Thanks in advance for any useful info.
Here are the obligatory pics of destruction...

if you want something not to harsh on the drive train... try this...
http://www.clutchnet.com/produ...age=1
its a solid hub, but its a full face solid hub.
or you can try this...

or... if all else, you want an organic lining... get this.
http://www.clutchnet.com/produ...age=2
these are all solid hubs but atleast no springs will be poping out.
*most likely, the full face organic lining with the solid hub will be the least harsh on your tranny.

I had the exact same clutch on my all motor setup.. It was drag raced on slicks, and abused daily for 60k miles.. When I removed the clutch, it still looked new with little wear..
All I have used is ACT and it hasnt given me any problems ever..

I have a turbo LS with GRS tranny too and the HD 6-puck and Full face both didn't last longer than 4-5 months each. Although the HD wasn't alligned properly when put in and the Full Face is just **** for my setup. It went out quicker than the HD on my daily driver. Both were unsprung. I don't think ACT works well with our setups, and I'm only making about 200hp to the wheel. I hope this helps. Have you checked out Centerforce lately?

dude I think act definetley owes you a replacement or ur money back,
less than a year should be under warranty for this kind of bullshit shouldn't it??
especially if it's a $500 freakin clutch,
call em up

i would recomend a clutchmasters fx300. i have had my for going on 2 and half years with no problem. it is great and it has seen some serious action on slicks and nitrous when i had my h22. also now i mostly autocross and it hasn't given me a single prob with overheating or anything. i believe they are going for around 350 on ebay which is very reasonable.

Tilton single plate clutch. Comes with 9lb chromoly flywheel, six puck cerametallic disk, original boxes and instructions. I know your not looking for unsprung disk, but its your best bet for no more spring failures. I will include the throwout bearing and flywheel bolts. Let me know if your interested.
this is why they make solid hub discs.
clutchnet does make a sprung hub puck disc which has a very beefy spring retainer plate. i have used them with the act plate because clutchnets extreme plate is retardedly stiff and eats up thrust washers.

if i were you i'd get a stronger diff (read: LSD) if you don't already have one, and get an unsprung clutch.
the open differential is the weakest part of the transmission. Then if there's any shock it will send it to the axles, which if you're like me, lifetime warranty
But again, I think that it's mainly due to your high amounts torque and soft tires..
something that I anticipate happening with my all motor d-series coming soon
