Default Couple questions about a 94 Civic

Hey there, I just got a white 1994 Civic EX Coupe with the manual. I'm really liking it so far, apart from a few things...

The car has 140k miles and the timing belt, radiator, distributor and alternator were just changed recently. Looks like the PO took care of the car, and I got it at a good price.

Questions/Problems:

1. There is a judder when letting out the clutch in first. This happens when you're starting from a stop or a very slow roll. You have to be really careful otherwise the judder is quite harsh. I'm wondering what that could be. Could it be the clutch?

2. The handbrake doesn't work. I think it grips, but only barely. Any ideas? Is there an easy DIY way of adjusting it?

3. The engine compartment gets really hot. After we were done test driving it and popped the hood, it just felt awfully hot inside. Everything was hot, even the prop rod. This was in the evening so it couldn't have been the sun.
3. There is a little bit of rust in the wheel wells, typical for Minnesota. Are these cars prone to rusting out structurally? How would i stop the rust from spreading? The orange doesn't go with the white.

Thanks for the help, I'm really liking the car, spartan as it is. Anything i should check out?

Another question - is the engine in my car the D16Z6? What would I need to do to keep it running well? I have the stock steelies on the car right now but would prefer alloys for the weight reduction - is that advisable? Where would I go about finding wheels for this car?

I'm not too sure about teh weight reduction for alloys. Anyone?

You should have the D16Z6; my '94 Si has that.

Have you checked teh back brakes for wear? Are they drum or disk?

As far as the engine goes...that's normal. What does the heat gauge look like?

not sure what you mean by judder but if you mean shudder there are 2 main things that cause that. worn clutch assy, if the clutch was changed was the flywheel resurfaced? this will cause a shudder. and to add 1 more thing to the list people that can't drive a stick.
