Default Rolling back odometer

I got a new guage cluster for my Dx HB, one w/ a tach. It has higher miles than the stock one. how do I roll it back so they have the same when I swap it. I was thinking of hooking my dremel to the speedo cable and letting it roll all the way around, but I think it would take awhile (from about 165k around to about 138k).

PUll the needle off. VERY CARFULLY. use two flat screw drivers on each side. Unscrew the gauge face. Then which ever number you wish to change move it either right or left then turn it to desired position then back to the right or left. Then put it all back together

I used my thumb to rool the numbers when I changed guage pods. There's no way to scratch the paint off the numbers that way, but it's a pain in the a$$ to do and takes some time to grt it right.

when i did mine, i removed a c-clip off to the left of the hundred thousands digit, that alowed me to slide each number wheel to the left to disengage the gear and it would spin freely.
this pic doesn't really show it, but it gives you an idea of how far you need to get your spedo apart. the trip odometer was taken apart for a diferent reason, you don't need to get it apart like that [IMG][/IMG]

you can also swap your old odometer into the gauge cluster that you want to use. all you have to do is use the odometer off the old cluster and use the face and needle off the other cluster and it should bolt right up. this will save you the time of trying to roll it back. this is what i did when i swap a 90 si cluster into my 88 hb

its only illegal if you try to sell the car w/o disclosing that fact that the odo has been altered. you can do whatever the **** you want to your car so long as it remain street legal.

I don't know about other states, but in Oregon after you hit 100,000 miles they don't care anymore.

As far as swapping the old odometer into the new cluster, that's what I was doing when I took the picture. I had to swap the trip odometer reset button because it was in a slightly different position and wouldn't fit the hole in the new cluster.

Check out my website if you want to see more on how to swap the odometers:
