Icebox and K&N filter question
I understand Comptech wants to sell their air filter with the Icebox but has anyone tested a, or know which, K&N filter that will fit the Icebox?
What are the size dimensions of the Comptech air filter? Is it tapered? This way I, we, can match the size with a K&N unit.
Thank you in advance for help.

Not a cost thing at all. First, I would just rather buy a K&N filter over the Comptech. Second, Comptech admits, at least they used to, the K&N flows the same when freshly cleaned and oiled but better after usage. It is just a preference thing and my curiosity.

If your run the 2427 in the stock airbox than the same filter should fit the icebox, because the comptech filter fits the stock airbox and the icebox.
Well, the Ice Box arrived today for me to find a fitting K&N unit. I'll start by testing the stock direct replacement, K&N# E-2427, then go from there. Now all i have to do is find a local shop that has that in stock, as well as others if it fails the fitment test. any suggestions for the northern va area? anyone!?

If you have some K&N's, especially the E-2427, i'll stop by this weekend to test fit them. My goal is to find the definative answer on which K&N(s) will fit the Ice Box for everyone, and myself. I appreciate the offer.
Yep, here's my post that answers most questions:

The pics don't seem to work, so here they are again:
1. The K&N Unit:
2. One angle:

3. Another:
I'd highly recommend that you get this filter (E-2427)

How does that K&N filter seal the back of the stock box if it doesn't have the lip to install the rubber sealer?
I have used the Comptech filter in the tricked stock box for a while and in my opinion this filter works. You can feel the added power. Also, I think it flows better than the K&N. The Comptech filter is open at the front and has that tapered horn shaped inlet inside. The K&N is closed and I don't know if it has the same feature inside. If it is straight like the stock one, I don't think it would be that efficient. Just MHO.

the e-2427 seals...
i had a pic but i lost it when my comp died on me
basically its molded plastic that fills the gap at the back of the airbox (well, at least the stock box) and it seems to seal fine

What I want to do is use the K&N filter in the Icebox with the stock elbow. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Ok, just finished installing the Ice Box. It unit looks real cheap, i think, not installed compared to everything you take off. I don't think this is so bad though. Install was very simple. The only "Fitment Issue" i have is with the A/C, i think, line that runs next the air box. The nut on that line rubs the down tube and looks like it would eventually wear a hold in the tube. To cure this, hopefully, i fashioned a plastic protector around the nut so what rubs against the Ice Box down tube is plastic on plastic and should be ok. i'll keep an eye on it.
Anyway, on the air filter for the Ice Box. Well, after measuring and checking and re-measuring it looks like the K&N OEM replacement filter could work in the Ice Box. A local shop ordered a couple for me and should be in next week. I’ll test fit these to check the fitment for sure. One thing I did find out was the stock filter fits the Ice Box. It is a little tight around the rubber seal where the filter seals the air box, but it fits. I am running it this way until the K&N’s come in. Stay tuned…

ok, finally the E2427 came off of back-order and the shop got their shippment yesterday. here is the definitave answer on the K&N filter in Comptech's Ice Box.
The E-2427 fit like a glove in the Ice Box on the stock intake tube.
Now, i wish we could add this to a sticky faq section like the i-club forums have, along with a host of other valuable information this board has accumulated over the years.
