Default Swap to a DX or Si Gauge Cluster

I've got a 91 Civic hatch std. Its got a D16B2 in it now. I'm about to swap in a PM5 ecu. Can I swap in a DX cluster? I assume I can, but what's involved? Any wiring changes? Also I saw that some clusters on ebay are listed as 88-89 and some as 90-91. Is there a difference?

Thanks.

D15b2..and yeah that cluster will work as long as its 90-91,,but why would you want to swap in a civic dx cluster? If anything swap in an si cluster or crx dx so you can have the tachometer..

Good point. Just seemed harder to find an Si cluster. So no wiring changes eh? That's a plus.

ndondahows, that might be a little high. Seems like they go for $30-40 on ebay. If I can't come across one there, I'll hit you up. BTW, how many miles on the odometer?

Don't worry about the mileage. You can swap the speedo form your old cluster to the new. As for the price it should be pretty easy to find one for 35-45. I found an SI cluster on here for 45 shipped. Post in the classified section.

And there are no wiring changes as long as you get a cluster from a 90-91 civic. Otherwise IT WILL NOT CONNECT without doing a lot of wiring.

I keep seeing 88-91 gauge clusters. What am I missing? I found one on H-T here http://hondamarketplace.com/zerothread?id=1591440 . Says 88-91. Have to excuse my ignorance on this one. I haven't seen what the Si cluster actually looks like so I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

They probably dont realize it,,alot of people assume 88-91 everything is the same..Just ask the seller what year it came out of ..

Heres what a 90-91 si cluster looks like..

Yes but the 88-89 clusters look like this as well the only difference is in the back where everything connects. And this is the problem I found. I bought a 88-91 a while back before I researched (I am an idiot) I have an 88 and don't think mine will work.
Also having an 88 dx the clutch is different than 89-91. so upgrading requires more parts.

Setting the mileage back on these clusters is fairly easy as well from what I have heard. So the mileage shown is not a big deal and can be set back to zero.
Just my 0.02

So that cluster pictured above WILL NOT plug into my 88 Sedan DX? I am going to pick up an 88-91 Civic Si cluster here in a little while, so I need to know as soon as possible.

This is the same problem I ran into.

I parted out my 1989 Civic LX cluster, which is the same as pictured, and went to place it in the 1990 DX hatch, all plugged in perfect, but alas, no tach, and you hit the high beams-all the idiot lamps light up.

How is the wiring different, and does anybody have the diagrams onhow to re-pin the connectors??

Guess I sparked some interest in this thread.
To sum it up.....
88-89 - Fit 88-89
90-91 - Fit 90-91

I looked at the LX clusters, but I figured they wouldn't work. So I'm still pursuing an Si one for now.

Deviation,
There is a thread talking about this subject but I don't know how to tell you what it so I will bump it. Hope this thread helps explain the differences in the clusters.

I have an SI one but I believe it is for the 90-91 and I need one for the 88-89 so as soon as I figure out if mine will work I may have one for sale. I paid like 50.00 shipped for it with 145k on the clock.

Appreciated. The search was (and still is) down when I posted this. Otherwise I would've used it.

Well not all the time for 88/89..Since there were 2 different companys that made the cluster in I think 89 only..
