Default SOHC turbo cam

I was wondering if there are any good turbo cams out there for a sohc. I was looking at the zex cam and the new crower cam but can't decide on which one to get. THe zex cam uses longer duration while the crower uses more lift. Which one would be better for a turbo setup. Thanks Paul

The stock cam is the best cam to have, forget about upgrading your cam.

i had to disagree with that. as for the zex cam it is a very mild cam that gives horsepower for all motor-apps and is designed to work with nitrous as well. they never mention turbo so it is not made specifically for it. if you get a crower turbo cam, those will produce a lot of horsepower. i dont know which cam my friend had in his sohc del sol, but his idle was 1,000 and the car kept revving itself to 2,000. just hearing stories about his car is one of the main reasons i have a turbo sitting in my living room today. hopefully it will be in before the end of this week...

are you saying that the cam is what made the car go from 1000rpm to 2000rpm??
that sounds like a IAC problem to me, or some other sort of electrical prob.
please clarify what you are trying to say

ummm, its a wild cam bro. check out http://www.crower.com and read up on the sohc cams, they have some with "mild lope" when you look up "lope" on dictionary.com it points out "grait" as well. anyway, basically its got a really F'n mean idle sorta like those domestic powerhouses you see. the reason why they dont idle good is because their powerband is all high end and the cam does not work good until a certain rpm.

Idle lope has nothing to do with how high a car idle's.. it just gives it a lumpy idle is all..

I have been using a JG vtec turbo cam on the SOHC turbo's we been building.
I havent followed up on their dyno results yet, but seems to be no complaints. These are the same cam that their full race VTEC sohc had when it was out in 98'.
Hit me up if ya need one.

Be careful buying crower valvetrain parts...there's a post somewhere complaining about them...

Exactly. The more duration a cam has will cause it to lope around at idle but will not make RPMs jump up and down.

I think I saw that JG cams were well liked for turbo SOHC apps but I'm pretty sure they are regrinds..

Also, a lopey cam is not as effective for a turbo (as it is for NA) for the same reason VTEC doesn't make as big a difference on turbo cars. VTEC is basically lets you run a standard cam until you hit your x overpoint, then it's like you have a lopey cam. If your exhaust valves are staying open longer while the piston is compressing the af mixture, your turbo is just pushing boost right out the exhaust. I don't know about Hondas but on most V8s the racey cams have even longer durations on the exhaust than on the intake.

Sorry for the extreme laymans' terms used in this post

As I mentioned before, it's the cam duration that causes the lumpy idle. All the cam does is control how far the valves open and how long they stay open. It does not control air intake and therefore cannot change the RPMs that the motor is turning.

Typically turbo cams are tuned for lots of torque, and to make it quickly. They are counting on getting the high horsepower from the turbo. Same with nitrous.

I would stick with the stock cam until you get every drop of power out of it then move on to a JG turbo cam. hell i'm still getting more power with my stock d16a6...

i have this sohc adjustable cam gear sitting around the house
i use it as a coaster
my friend gave it to me for free
im thinking about putting it on my stock cam but
do you think I could extract any horsepower out of it on the dyno?
and if so, how much do you think i could get
just contemplating if its worth it or not
might just sell it
