Default LIGHT WIEGHT FLYWHEEL AND TURBO ?

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS B/C I HAVE HEARD PEOPLE SAY THAT A LIGHTWEIGHT FLYWHEEL ON A TURBO CAR IS NOT REALLY A GOOD IDEA B/C WHEN YOU GO TO SHIFT THE GEARS IT COULD BOG DOWN AND STALL THE ENGINE. I HAVE ALSO HEARD THAT IT IS OK AT THE SAME TIME, SO WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS WHAT SOME OF YOU THINK.

PLEASE JUST THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE THIS SETUP OR HAVE DRIVEN A CAR WITH THAT SETUP ANSWER THIS ?, NOT HEAR SAY, I WANT FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE ON THIS THANK YOU.

I like my 8.5lbs flywheel because 9500rpm comes fast as hell. But at times the rpm's drop a lil fast also.

In my honest opinion, I like a flywheel around the 12-15lb area. More that that is just too much reciprocating mass.

Below that and the revs just drop too damn fast for my liking, it kinda makes it a bitch to daily drive. Never stalled, it just made some jerky shifts sometimes cause the revs would drop so fast.

It's rotating, not reciprocating

At any rate, I enjoyed the 7.8 lb flywheel in my turbo car. I went from a stock ITR flywheel to the 7.8 and never looked back.

So the some of you people's cars turn off after shifting because of a lightweight flywheel? Damn, that sucks, you guys think it'll happen with a 8.36 lb flywheel? I'm running a y8 with stock internals, looking towards a greddy or homemade turbo setup.

Just installed a Fidanza on my turbo DA and have yet to experience any negative side effects. I find the car more enjoyable to drive.

Mine does the same thing. I'm running a tilton twin disc setup which is really light .

it really depends on how fast your turbo spools....i have a sc50 .48 ar exhuast on my d16z6 and I installed a 8.5 lbs ACT flywheel at the time of my clutch upgrade and notice a lil slower in spool time but at the same time gaining traction and topend pull. SO...you guys with smaller turbos ripping tires through gears might like the feel of a lighter flywheel as it will slow your spool down a bit and also allow you to shift faster do to less rotating mass. But as I mention before lighter flywheel will reduce your turbo responce in between shifts... guys running larger turbos may want to stay away from this upgrade.

Yeah....like I said... faster spoling turbos will benifit from lighter flywheels as a lil boost lag (may not even feel it) will increase some traction.

My car made boost sooner with a ~8 lb flywheel (by 600 RPMs) according to my datalogs. This was on a Greddy 18G.

sorry to bring this back

but why does a light-weight flywheel make a turbo spool a little slower?
