Its just the viscosity. 10w30 won't hurt at all.

Honda calls out 10W30 for the H23 and 5W30 for the H22.
I'd say it's your call, doesn't really matter 99.9% of the time.

Virtually all new passenger vehicles sold in the U.S. use either 5W30 or 10W30 oil. The difference between the two is that the 5W30 flows better when cold, so if you live in a cold climate or operate your vehicle in a cold climate during the winter months, you should use 5W30 if it is the preferred oil for your vehicle. If you live in a sub-tropical climate and don't operate your vehicle in cold climates, then 10W30 is acceptable as long as the manufacturer specifies that it is permissible to use it.</TD></TR></TABLE>

If you're racing in very hot temperatures for extended periods of time, and don't have better cooling to compensate for these conditions, then yes, xW40's and xW50's will help prevent shearing of the oil.
However, Honda (and all manufacturer's afaik) test their engines in extreme conditions both hot and cold, for very long periods of time, and if 5W30 or 10W30 has been approved by their engineers, I figure it's good enough for my once-in-a-blue-moon track day, even if it's warm.

For sure, the Motor Oil Bible is actually quite an interesting read (for those interested in the mechanics of your car)

If you have alot of miles on your engine or your rings are bad i find if you use a heavier weight oil, you get better compression and it wont burn alot of oil while driving.
I use 20W50 in my 93 lude h22 and haven't had any problems....

H22A1 4th gen manual: the oil that is required to use 10w30 UNLESS the temperatures are VERY low, then it gives you the chart.
H22A4 5th Gen manual: 5w30
Not that it really matters. But that is what HONDA recommends.

I bought my car w/ 122K on it H23, and the owner had always used 5w30 Quaker State (i know, i know), I stuck with the QS, but since I was commuting more at the time and the mileage was getting up there I switched to the 10w30, longer break down time. Car just rolled 200k and have only had to replace the normal seals and she still gets 28mpg on an average tank.
