Default replacing 1993 prelude center console with the 1994 one.

hey, can a 1993 center console(where the parking brake) be replaced with the 1994 center console? The 1994 one has a compartment behind the brake that I want. oh yea and how involved is is it to replace the climate control? my car came with the cheap climate control with the sliders(I know its not supposed to but it did) and I want the digital climate control. thanks.
btw my car is
1993 vtec si prelude. thank you.

USDM is the kind that was put on the ludes released in USA. JDM's were on the ludes in Japan. if you've ever searched 92-96 prelude on ebay, you will have seen JDM up and down. JDM is what everyone trys to convert USDM to. "keep it JDM".

and JDM is the one with the digital readout on the heat and buttons instead of the slider right? how difficult is it to replace if I was to get JDM.

exactlly. as far as the difficulty scale goes, i would say it might be a tad challenging. pulling off the console isn't going to be hard, just screws on the side and by your head unit, but i'm not sure if the wiring harnesses are direct plug and play. my guess would be they are, but don't quote me on that. the sizing may be a little different so you might have to get a JDM console as well. just my thinking, but i'm most likely wrong. someone show me up?

wait which console are you talking about? the one involving the climate control or the one in the center between the seats?

Yes it (the console) can be replaced, I used to have a write up on hpoa.org but that is long gone...ANYWAYS, it is not plug and play or...bolt and play for this instance, you have to get a new ebrake assebly and bolt it to the floor and then rig up some new brake cables for it. But I figured it out with little/no car knowledge under my belt at the time and w/o a write up.

As far as the digital climate control goes, if you dont know that much about cars I honestly wouldnt attempt this. A lot goes into this and its no where near plug and play as you need to buy multiple harnesses and sensors, rewire, take the dash out, run wires through the firewall, etc. its just a lot more work that it seems to the eye.
Let's put it this way, i had a digital cc w/ EVERYTHING needed and still didnt install it.
I just managed to get ripped off by some guy scamming me through paypal to get his refund.
you know who you are.

Im not doing any of this myself. Im having my friend do it but I wanted to know how involved this was cause I dont want to ask too much of him. I have two friends, one knows enough to work at a auto repair shop, and knows a decent amount about cars. the other has enough knowledge to work at toyota dealership repairing cars, bout 2 years of knowledge each. so as far as hours how long u guys think the two parts will take to do?

i'd say about 8-10 with all the things ef93si said had to be done. especially if this is their first time working on a lude. each car is different in its own way. just make sure you find out what all the harnesses you need to get before you attempt this. research, research, research. buy all the harness you will need before hand. try to make sure you don't start the project, then realize you're missing something, and have to stop and put the USDM stuff on.

are you sure you want to do this? i'd say just keep the USDM climate control. as far as the console goes, hey, that's you're call.

There are a bunch of sensors and crap you need for the climate control.

The console I did myself. Fairly simple but time consuming. I spent prolly 12 hrs dinking with it gettin it all set up proper and working right.

Good Luck

theres a guy I believe on H-T that sells full kits for the JDM climate control with custom harness and even instructions...but from what i hear pulling your entire dash out and hooking everything up is time consuming and difficult. Consoles arent plug and play and take some tinkering too like the guy said you need to attach the ebrake differently and modify the lines slightly and the hazard lights get wired diff. along with power mirrors and/or heated mirrors if ur lucky like me....looks better tho...best of luck

its def. not plug and play. i installed one in my bb4 over the summer. it took a week and i hand to drop the column and remove the dash. any questions or pics just ask.

as for the center console with the ebrake. the earlier model's with the long lock box can be replaced with the later model arm rest, the only problem is the ebrake. the ebrake on the earlier model will not work with the later model arm rest. some people have modified the earlier model ebrake, other have swapped the later model ebrake along with the arm rest, to do this you must also lengthen the ebrake cables. search around and theres a thread on it

Yea, I have the same problem with the center console and e-brake. I bought a center console with an arm rest to replace the one that I have, but the e-brake alignment doesn't fit. I seriously need help with this because I just bought it yesterday and I want my console to fit.
