Default What Kind/Brand Of Motor Oil To Use?

Alright, I've been reading up a bit, and I've started to get my know how and parts together to build my turbo kit for ..... my stock d16y8.

I know I'm prob. going to hear, swap, N/A, etc, but I want to turbo my d-series, and make it useable for a daily driver. I have plans to purchase a bubble within the next few months that will be my beast.

Now my question is about my oil. Since I'm going turbo I'm going to need a fresh change of oil and perhaps from my understanding, have to use SYNTHETIC motor oil.

Now, back on topic, first off, what kind of oil (5W30-10W30, etc.), and what brand (Mobil1, Pennzoil, Castrol, etc.) of oil do I or should I use?

How do I switch from a non-synthetic oil, that I'm using now, Castrol GTX 5W-30, on a 116,000 mile engine, to a synthetic oil? Just drain and fill, or do I need to do something else?

Any comments or suggestion welcome.

Thanks.

if you want to go from reagular to synthetic i would drain fill with synthetic rund it for a while then do another synthetic oil change if you want to make sure all the regular oil is out. dont really have to do it but if you want to be sure thats what i would do

AMSOIL. Only synthetic to reccomend a 25k mile oil change. Yes, it doesnt start to break down till after 8000 miles.

Noticed a slight difference in Amsoil and Mobil1 synthetic in my car, amsoil made it a bit revvier.

I wouldn't worry. Your choice of oil won't affect the short life you will have introduced to your stock motor with a turbo.

If you are goign forged internals thats another story. Use synth because of its higher resistance to heat breakdown/sludge in turbo.

I have noticed on my own motor that I have a little oil consumption.

I have used the 'honda' brand oil - happened.
I have used Mobil 1 - currently using because could find what I like- still has consumption.

I like Quaker State 5 w 30. I still had consumption just did not seem to be as drastic as with Mobil1 5 w 30 and honda oil.

This statement however, is in no way stating that one motor oil is better then the other, I have now way to prove and dont care to. I just like Quaker State the best.

Just run a synthetic 5w 30 would be good in my opinion. BTW I am all motor not boost.

sorry but i need to jack this thread really quick for ONE question. I think i got faked out, someone just confirm, correct etc. me really quick. Mobil1 full synthetic motor oil is for 5000K? and Mobil1 Full synthetic extended life is the 15K change? I put it in my gf's car, so its under normal driving conditions, I got the mobil1 extended life oil filter. What to do now?

IMHO, just because the oil says 15K miles, you shouldn't wait that long. The oil system in these engines is just over 4 quarts, the filter can only filter so much crap until it needs to be changed.

Unless you have a BMW or Porsche with a 14qt. oil system, I wouldn't go more than 5K in any case.

i used mobil 1 15w/50 in my turbo b16a2 and i changed oil every 3k. It get expensive but well worth it in my opinion. I took my valve cover off and the bottom is clean, my buddy who used reg oil in his took his off and he had a bunch of buildup on his valve cover.
