I have heard "unofficially" from someone in the know that it has been recommended to SEB to go to GS. I'd still wait on the next FasTrack to be safe though.

[conspiracy theory]well that depends, did BMWNA send in their bribe money for the mini yet? [/conspiracy theory]
imo, with the misclassed mini in GS, the civic HAS to go to GS for the SAC to continue "speeding up" the classes. [sarcarstic remarks] an even better place for it would be HS. what, you don't think so? no lsd equipped car should be in HS? i offer you the BMW 318i, complete with clutch type lsd. yeah, the civic can beat it on power, but we're speeding the classes up, right?[/sarcastic remarks]
nate - still thinks 'they' dropped the ball on the MCS classing, whomever 'they' are
ps. my serious opinion is GS. the new Si seems to fit the new GS quite well. definitely not DS though.

I agree that in GS the Si vs. 05+ Mini would be a sweet battle
Honda will have a chance regain GS dominance

GS is what I have heard as well.
However, I have my doubts that a 2800lb FWD car will do well in any class, unless you can stuff a huge tire under the front of it and get a course that favors power.

The 05 Mini is 2800lb FWD car...and it ruled GS this year.

The Mini is a lot lighter than 2800lbs in GS trim! I think you'd be surprised as to what they weigh.
Don't forget about the 97" wheelbase too and virtually zero front and rear overhang.

If I remember right I saw a Mini Cooper S around 2400-2500? Correct me if I'm wrong.
And the S has better torque down-low than the 06 Si. I don't know I think the Mini S is still going to reign next year.

From Edmunds.com I see the numbers being 2679 curb weight for the Mini-S. I don't think the new Civic Si can compete against it to tell the truth.

Mini has also anounced a LTW(Mini S)-BMW of South Bay behind my house- has told me that they have gotten a possible ordersheet for those

First, lets clear up a common misconception. What the SAC recommends and the SEB rules upon can be two very different things. Been there on both, and experienced both ends of the stick as well.
Next, a decent competition weight for an '05+ Cooper S is just under 2500lbs. The stock run-flat wheels are heavy and the exhaust is a boat anchor.
Over time, all classes get faster. That is why some former BS cars are now in DS, DS cars in GS, and GS cars in HS. Normally, it happens a little more incrementally than the fast forward that happened over the last 12 months.
Lastly, the only funny money I might have seen being involved in some capacity of car classing silliness since 1998, came from the bank of Milton Bradley, and was only good for acquiring property in Atlantic City. Never any small unmarked bills from BMW, Mazda, Honda, or any of the usual suspects.

SAC has recommended, SEB has acted, minutes have been approved and should be on the SCCA web site any day now in FastTrack. Stay tuned.
BTW, I think GS will be a great battle this year, too.

PS: Thank God the SEB doesn't act on everything the SAC sends it. You guys change your minds too much.

Bring it on
I might even have to drive northwest for a couple of hours and autocross around the Clemson trees.
My misclassed GS MCS weighed in at around 2500 lbs at nationals. It would be 2800 lbs with Nate and I sitting in it after lunch.

GS is going to be much more interesting next season. This year, Eric Kriemelmeyer campained (locally) a Spec V SE-R in DS that was modestly prepared. For those of you that do not know Eric, he is a serious national level caliber driver, he has simply taken a few years away from the national scene. Brian Garfield (#2 finisher at nats in GS) ran all the same events in his Mini this season. Eric bettered Brian's times at a majority of the events. These are national caliber courses as well in the DC area. With the Spec V moving to GS, I think it is going to be interesting. Add the new SI in the mix and a few others....should be an interesting battle.

That would be interesting to see how the new Si does in GS, I am getting ready to try out my new 06 Type S in GS at its debut event comming december 4th in Phoenix. Hope it goes well

Should be fun locally. Nationally, no dice without an LSD like the Si, Cooper S, and Spec V.
