Anyone buy a OEM front wheel bearing lately?
i was wondering what the bearing looks like that you get from the honda dealer nowadays.
it sounds like they might have updated the bearing, i want to confirm.
if you have bought a bearing recently, i want to know if the bearing came with a rubber seal on BOTH sides, or rubber seal on one side, and a metal seal on the other.

Looks like you've answered the thread...
Check out majestic honda and call up one of the sales reps and ask them to check that. Or check a dealership, they might one on hand...but either place SHOULD know of hte update...

well yes i know i answered wes's question, but it arises a new question on why did he get the bearing with a metal seal? is it really a factory update? its not quite making sense unless it is, but then the part numbers ARE different. so that still doesnt make sense.
if i could just get someone to verify what i am asking in this thread...

I'm not certain on Wes's setup. It may be something simple like a dummy-proof bearing cuz people we're putting them in crooked and they'd wobble or something. Anyways, good luck in your hunt here...

I bought OEM bearings for a 90 EX about 2 years ago from Majestic when I did my swap and they had the metal on one side and rubber on the other. I had refrained from answering so far bcause it wasn't recent.

Tyson;
I don't want to add confusion to all this. What I said in that other post was that per my recollection, one side of the bearing was different from the other. I don't really remember if it was a "metal" side or not.
I do remember that there was a visual difference. I just don't remember what the exact difference was.

chris, your input helps. 2 years ago huh. seems like both of your got it for your EX knuckles, but the part number is the same as all EF's.
i did my bearings back in 2002. i had to do them twice that year, and they had rubber seals on both sides, im pretty sure. the first set i bought straight from honda, the other i got from OPM along with my hardened hubs. im sure they just found the direct bearing supplier for NTN.
anyone else?

I just recieved brand new wheel bearings from Honda directly about a month ago. Part #44300-SB2-963. One side is metal while the other is rubber
EXCELLENT!
thank you very much.
so then the original 44300-SB2-966 part number is now superceded by 44300-SB2-963 which has a metal seal.
this looks nothing like the one for the integra. which has a different part number anyway, 44300-S5A-004.
i now have a better peace of mind about it all.

I ordered my wheel bearing from majestic... i got the '996 part numbered one. double rubber. on majestics site it listed four different ones, one was 61$ the other was 59$ i got thew one that was 61$... i dont know if any of this helps BTW most of this info is for tyson
I am pretty sure they still buy from a few different manufactures.
Koyo
Toyo Seca
NTN
Nachii
I have recieved all these brands from the dealer. At one point I actually ordered 2 of each brand and compared them. I had my machinist mic them out for ID, OD and inner/middle/outer consistancy...I believe the Nachii's were the best, but I would have to double check my notes.

hey guys...i gotta replace both front 1's (98 b16a civic 4dr). NTN are the OEM 1's but i got offered KOYO as well. any opinions on the koyo brand?
Koyos are just fine. Really they are all fine.
The most consistant in terms of ID and OD at both edges of the bearing and the middle was the Nachii's
You may want to check like Napa...they carry the NTN's and probably a few other brands (same ones Honda carries), but for cheaper.
If I remember correctly my research led me to conclude the following order of preference.
1. Nachii
2. Koyo and NTN
3. Toyo seca
They all work fine, but the Nachii's were just a little more consistant and the Koyo's and NTN's were a close second. The Toyo Seca's had a couple thousandths of difference from edge to edge.
