Front wheel bearing directional?
In particular, on a 89 civic, are the front wheel bearing directional? In other words, is there an "in" and "out" when installing.
I've looked through both my 89 factory manual and also a 95 factory integra manual.
Please rule out rumor and quote where you got the information.

what? theres no in or out either. ive done bearings several times. supplied from honda and direct from bearing mfgr. i repacked them myself everytime with new synthetic grease. both sides are identical. theres nothing in helms that specifies in/out face.
if im wrong, show me any indication.

see, NEW wheel bearing (ok, its old, just still new in packaging.)

i didnt want to unseal the bearing. so i marked one side.

the other side, identical.

bearing number says NTN DE0871
HOWEVER, i ran across this thread. i think its for a type r. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=720159
Honda wheel bearing part number:
44300-S5A-004 (same as EG and EK)
you can see it does not have a seal on the inboard side.

at least i know my memory aint (as) bad yet....
oh well, just means more

so conclusion: EF and EG are different, which may be why youre confused looking at the 89 and 95 manuals.
EF has no orientation.
anything later has an obvious in/out orientation.

Here is a little "history" that may clear up why I'm asking the question.
When I installed my EX knuckles, I got replacement bearings from the dealer. There was a difference in the seals on one side in relation to the other side. Not seeing any reason for it making a difference, plus the fact that there was nothing in the manuals I've got, I just had them pressed in (while I was watching).
I've got a small amount of noise coming from one side of the car that seems like bearing noise. It's not that much, but bugs me.
So, in hind-sight, I'm wondering if it's in backward.
I guess the question at this point is in what factory manual or service bulletin can I verify that the metal "seal" goes inward.

the bearing part numbers for the EX is the same as all the other EF.
you should have gotten what i have pictured.
there may be a TSB that shows an update to the bearing number to the later models. ive always received the double sided bearing, but last time i did a wheel bearing was a few years ago.
