Hey I won't be like the rest of the a-holes who just tell you to search. The glass from a 5th gen will fit, but you will have to drill your own mounting holes in the glass or make custom mounts to fit on your sunroof assembly. Otherwise not too hard. If you're picky about appearance, you may want to also make some sort of trim to go around the sunroof since now part of the assembly will be exposed to the interior of the car after you convert.

Wrong. I don't see how drilling holes in the glass would help. You have to drill four new holes in the 4g mounting brackets (or cut off four of the studs on the sunroof panel; there are 8 altogether). You will also have to grind off the metal bump stops on the front of the panel to get it to slide all the way down.

Even then, it will not set quite as low as the stock roof, so getting it totally flush will require some more creativity/custom fab.

The write ups say you have to shim the assembly to get the glass to sit flush. But... what exactly is "shimming"?, how do you do it?

Shimming just means a little spacer to adjust the height. There are metal shims already in place; I took them out to try to get it to sit lower. I don't know why people would put more in.

Actually if you get the WHOLE sunroof assy. including the sliders, glass, motor, etc. you can use the mounting brackets and trim from the 5th gen and install it into the 4th gen slider/motor assy. Looks stock

But then you have to take off the headliner and drop the whole assembly out, right? When you just replace the panel, you don't have to take off the headliner.

LOL! have you ever tried to drill tempered glass? go to a junk yard and take a drill. ull crack the glass into thousands of pieces.
I dont even know if a glass bit would work to drill tempered.
