Default Another "my b16 wont start" thread... help me please

as the title states my b16 wont start.....

b16 intake header exhaust
uberdata

Went to go somewhere this morning... car starts, goes to 2 k like its gonna stay on and stalls out. This has happened once or twice before, and sometimes i just let it sit for 5 minutes and itll start right back up. Not this time.

The car turns over, but just doesnt turn on. Someone please give me the appropriate steps to take and what to check in what order so i can get this piece back on the road. maybe it can make it to the faq section

Thank you
Eric

EDIT: What ive done so far.

Checked all the wires and harnesses
Reset the ECU
Checked Cap and Rotor
Checked Oil

Need to know how to Check Fuel and spark....and i dont have a compression tester handy.

To check for spark you will need two people.

Take out the spark plug wires from the cylinders, grab a metal screw driver and put it inside the spark plug wire. Hold it about 1-2mm from the distributor or radiator support, and hold the handle of the screw driver.

Have the other person give it a few starts and look to see if you have spark between the screwdriver and where ever you are grounding it too. Test that on all four cylinders.

Check spark plugs for condition as well. If you have no spark, then that is your problem. Start from the smallest and work your way up. Check fuses, replace spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap/rotor, ignitor, main relay, etc.

To check for fuel, or to make sure your engine is injecting fuel. Grab a metal flat head screw driver, and place it right on the tip of the fuel injector. Have someone give it some starts, and place your ear on the butt of the handle of the screw driver, and you should hear a click. It will be very clear that there is a click if the fuel injectors are spitting fuel.

You can also grab starter fluid, and spray some into the throttle body, have someone give it a few starts to see if the engines starts.

HTH.

Thank you for the directions

heres the wierd thing tho...i swithced ecus with my buddy with an LS and it didnt start...so i put mine back in...and decided to see if it would start at all or anything and it started right up!? WTF?

Could that mean that any of the above things are bad and that its dangerous to drive my car? or that it was ECU? What should i be looking for now? the last thing i want is to be stranded if this happens when i am away from home

You switched ECU's with a buddy with an LS, and his didn't start?

Did you throw his ECU into your car and your car start?

ECU is bad.

Sounds like shady wiring. Make sure battery terminals are secure as well.

If he switched ECUs and it started. Wouldn't that rule out the battery terminals being insecure. I would say it's a bad ECU if it starts with one and not the other.

Ok so this is gonna sound confusing...so im gonna try and explain it the best i can.

As of today the car has started without any trouble at all (knock on wood) with my uberdata chipped p28. (the original ecu) However, when poison had mentioned the shady wiring... i went ahead and started checking the connections and found 3 wires that are in the clump of wires going to the ecu but are not plugged in.

They are

Red with a white stripe
White with a red stripe
and Orange with a blue stripe

Thats the only harness ive checked....and i will finish checking the rest at 8pm tonight....What are these wires for? what should i do?

Eric

PS. ill have a picture tonight too.
