Default Header??? What to Get???

What's up ppl. I wnat to get a header but have NO idea what to get....I do have a price range...no more than $450. That knocks off Mugen, Spoon, Hytech and prob. SMSP. I have heard really good things about JG edelbrock headers. Any experiences????

Also 4-2-1 or 4-1? i am not a track racer....more of a daily driver/road racer.

Thanx.
Leo

DC Sports 4-2-1...(ceramic if you want to keep the car for 2-5 years, stainless if your running nitrous...last longer...)...
4-2-1 design low end to mid range power...perfect for daily driver...$260-$380

what kind of car do you have?........i heard JG header is not bolt on and some welding is required

if you have a gsr, i would go with DC JDM 4-1 which i will be getting soon.......i got a dc ceramic 4-2-1 about 4 years ago and its got a crack in the y pipe primaries.......you will also need a custom cat which will run about 165......or a staight pipe(but it makes the car sound like ****).......with your budget, you should be able to get everything, excluding labor..........or you can also go with the JDM ITR 4-1, but it will run about 100 bucks more, but the DC 4-1 made more power on the low end than the JDM ITR

DC 4-1! They're VERY nice and cheaper than the JDM's. The DC 4-1 Header made better low end power than the JDM, but the JDM made higher Peak HP. The 4-2-1 Design is all mid range gains. I'd go with the 4-1... I did.

Yeah, what car is this for?

If for a GSR, I'd get the JDM 4-1 or the JDM DC/4-1. The 60mm collector is what you are looking for here, You'll also need a new cat for these.

If for the LS/SE or RS, I'd get the DC SS 4-2-1, good for all around town but don't expect some miracle oil, it WON'T produce any staggering gains for these cars. I list the SS because I've heard countless stories of the Ceramic coating cracking prematurely.

In general 4-1 is usually for higher end gains with a little loss down low, and 4-2-1 is for mid range without as much high-end than a traditional 4-1. There are also hybrid 4-2-1's like the Spoon that you are already counting out for price. The hybrids produce gains across the board with minimal sacrifice.

Here's a link to the header test so you can look at the JDM 4-1 and DC/JDM: http://www.automotiveperformanceengi...om/header.html

Good luck,

A.

Sorry for the missing Info....this is a 2001 GSR. Mods. will include AEM CAI, Header????, ITR full cat back exhaust, and USDM ITR pistons (near furure), ITR LSD(near future), ITR Rear sway bar, H&R OE springs, skunk2 shortshifter.

Other than the welding issue with the JG edelbrock, is the header any good at producing power? JG's dyno has this header making up to 9 more hp than the same car with DC sports header (4-2-1), and the gains are throughout the rpm range.

If I decide NOT to get the JDM DC sport 4-1, what should I get? I have read that since the diameter of the pipe is bigger (2.5") i will loose low end power and get high end, aka 5000rpm on. What do you think?

Thanx.

recent dynos of the jdm and dc jdm 4-1 shows that you actually gain low end power(but that test was done on an ITR, so the higher CR, bigger cams, and different IM might have a role in those results)

a guy i know said he has the dc 4-1 and lost a noticeable amount of low end on his gsr
