Sounds like a nightmare.

You're going to have to go through your harness and find where crossed/skinned/grounded wires are.

You'll want a good multi meter, a HELM for your vehicle, caffiene, and lots of patience!

Start in the obvious places...grounds, battery connections, etc.

If all else fails, go to the junkyard and ripped out as many wires as possible and replace yours.

I had similar problems when the positive lead on my starter was grounding out to the starter case.

That's the problem with wiring and shorted circuits... you can bump this thread all you want and nobody is going to be able to answer your question. I do wiring for a living and there's no way i can diagnose the possible cause with the information you've provided, and i don't think i could if you told me every detail. You need a volt meter and the knowledge it takes to use it and troubleshoot electrical circuits.
The best advice i can give you is to checkout http://www.the12volt.com and read about how electrical systems work and how to troubleshoot them. I doubt anyone has had the exact same (weird ***) problems and conditions that you're experiencing and can trace it all back to one single connection...

Sorry.

edit:
A few things i noticed when reading your posts.

- The speakers pop because the current from the emergency flasher relay is finding it's way through them. How is that possible if you don't have those wires connected to something....
- could you have blown the bulbs out of those other sensors by shorting it out? check it out.
- is there a ground not attached somewhere under the dash.. without ground, there is no electricity flowing through that circuit. The check engine light is probably grounded by the ECU, not on the same circuit as those other lights.

The wiring diagrams for a CRX are in the CRX workshop manual. Located here: http://www.norcalcrx.org/library

sounds like the CableMonster has been crossing circuits in the car

Ask: what wiring or circuits could have been accidentally mixed up?

start tracing with a DMM or VOM that preferably has an audible continuity test mode--begin with one of the circuits involved; decide what items should be powered by each circuit and what should NOT....

good luck,

Oust the CableMonster!

I just finished fixing a wiring nightmare on my friend's 1986 Toyota MR2. Someone had tried installing an alarm, a stereo, and god knows what else. There were crossed wires all over the place, skinned wires, and even a piece of speaker wire spliced into the 8 ga starter wire that was grounding out to the body.

I should have taken a picture of the rats nest of wires and stuff I removed from that car. Now it runs fine, starts every time, and the lights don't randomly quit working for days at a time.

The key with wiring is patience...and a Fluke meter.
