Invest in some micrometers.

You would use a Mic to measure the skirt of the pistons and a cylinder bore gauge to meausre the exact bore. Subtract the size of the pistons from the size of the bore and you get your pistons to wall clearance. You can find a Mic and bore gauge on ebay for pretty cheap.

You can also measure the piston skirt diameter and then set the dial bore gauge to zero out at that diameter and measure the difference in size between the piston skirt and the cylinder bore to give you the clearance.

For example: If you measure 3.1982" on the skirt diameter and zero out the dial bore gauge to 3.1982", the indicator on the dial bore gauge will read +.0010" for .0010" of clearance. If it reads -.0010", then you're too tight.

I don't have any action shots for you. It's too hard for me to measure and take a picture with the camera at the same time...believe me...I've tried.
