Apexi Power FC vs. AEM EMS
In terms of tunability, how well does the Power PC w/ Power Excel compare to the AEM unit.
What are the pros and cons of each unit?
What unique features does each possess that the other doesn't have?
Which is the more cost effective unit?
Which would you choose if you can tune it yourself or have someone tune it for you?
All these years, I haven't done a bit of research on these units but it seems like the Power PC with Power Excel and FC Datalogit is quite powerful.
Thanks

Unless you have a desire to learn how to tune your car by yourself, just go with the standalone engine management system that the best tuner near you uses.
I dont think one system is more capable over another. But I know first hand that the AEM EMS has so many damn features its mind boggling. Most of which you will never use, nor need. It all comes down to how capable the tuner is.

Why not give Jack a call if he deals with them day in and day out? He would give the best insight, not single good or bad experiences.
But if you seek biased insight... from what I understand, the AEM system has more than a couple firmware issues that need to be resolved resulting in difficulty for your tuner.

I ran the ems on my old integra I bought mines used so I didn't have to run any firmware updates, geting it to run was as easy as downloading a program for your type of vehicle from the aem site and most settings worked fine I only had to tweak the throtle response and also I had some problems idleing but aem support support was pretty good and the message board has tons of info but you need a valid serial # to log on

you make it sound way too easy like anyone and their mother can go buy it, hook up the ECU, upload the correct firmware to the chip, run the latest version software, and go. not quite that simple. its not like there is a menu for "throttle response" and have choices "good" or "bad". and many times if you change one setting it effects another setting, and so on. idle is pretty easy to set up and work out bugs. but things like off idle response and hesitation, decel, getting consistent startup in cold and hot weather, etc, are things I had the most problems with and never really got it to my liking. if you have a good understanding of EFI tuning though, it is much easier to take in obviously. and yes the AEM forum has a TON of info with how-to's, step by step, etc.

Like i said I bought mines used and the guy before me had already upgraded to the latest firmware wich solved lots of bugs, so when I called aem to get it setup the first time they walked me thought the setup and it was pretty straight forward and I had the car running the same day without "major" problems, but your right its not like its super easy to learn all the settings the learning curve is quite high

Could you elaborate please? I would like to know anything that might be an issue with the AEM beforehand.
