Default D Series SOHC Cylinder Walls good for 400hp?

How strong are the cylinder walls on a D series engine. I have a D16Y8 and i am thinking about buying pistons and rods for boost. Will i need to sleeve to make big hp, or will the stock cylinder walls be strong enough?

Thanks

Most ppl will be picky and say no, you need to sleeve..However i know of 2 local SOHC blocks that are puting down around 365-380whp on stock sleeves(both pushing around 24-27PSI on T3/T4 turbos)...So they can handle on good tunning.

2.5 Years agou Guys from Estoni did on D16Z6 309 Kw and 1.7 bar boost on stock block, not sleeved. That was at the moment the record in Finland, so small engine with so high boost. Hestec manegment, Wiseco pistons and eagle rods. The gasket and bolts are stock. Car still run, everyday use.

Don't be worried about the sleeves, be worried about keeping the head on..

Make sure you get ARP Main Studs to keep those rods connected to the crank. I had 9.0 JE pistons connected to stock rods and my engine blew. The main bearing actually fried and shot up into my piston. I've heard that the stock sleeves can take a beating, but make sure you build that bottom end really good and just throw in ARP head studs. They're cheap and give you more reassurance. HAVE FUN

Main studs do not hold your rods to your crank. THey hold the crank to the block. I believe you are referring to rod bolts or studs.

Back to the the topic, I am doing my build with eagle rods and arias pistons and am shooting for 300+on pump and maybe a low 400 on race if I am daring that day. I am not afraid of destroying the stock sleeves, just make sure it is tuned correctly and you shouldnt have a worry.
