use a car battery and clamp one end of wire to the battery then if you have a cap. run the wire to the cap. then to the amp just like in a car....

That's not going to be enough juice to power the amp even to half it's power potential.

You can ask the guys at the car audio store on how they do it.

You need to get a dc power supply. For the kind of current your amp will draw when played loud the power supply would be $$$. It would be way cheaper to get a used home amp.

yeah a ac dc power supply would work. they have a whole mother load on ebay. Its the same kind of power supply they use on your game room like the game where you knock down the ducks, wack the mole, and possibly on arcade. Just remember your ohms equation, and find a suitable power supply for your amp.

Depending on your audio system, you might need something that is 70-200A. This kind of power supply is not cheap, but you're talking to the right guy. I work at an electronics surplus store! If you want, I can look around the shop to see if we have any high-wattage 12v power supplies. I can cut you a deal. Email me at synthead1@comcast.net if you want to talk turkey

Oh, our online catalog is http://shop.vetcosurplus.com/catalog but most of our heavier surplus stuff is available in-store only.

So I found the simple solution and though Id share it before the thread falls off. I ended up using a battery charger hooked up directly to my amp. Super simple, cheap and worked all night w/o any probs.

And the battery charger didn't put a horrible hum into the amplifier? lucky you. Personally I have a 100amp regulated power supply from an old Phoenix Gold display board at home that I use to run stuff.

I have done this before. Just hook a car battery charger up with your car battery then hook your system up to that. I had my whole house shaking. Never had any problems but it is best if you hooked up a cap. with this to reduce the dimming of lights. You should also try to hook up ur surround sounds to the system. It is crazy.

i got a 2200RMS amp and powered it off a big car batt and a 20amp car batt charger. It played as hard as it ever did when i had the setup in my car.

charger = $45 walmart
batt = $65 walmart

i used a RCA running off a 5.1 Pioneer receiver

To get the amp to turn on just hook it up like you would in a car. No difference. It is like the battery charger is replacing the alternator to recharge the battery. Remote wire from the amp hook it up to the remote wire from the deck. The acc connect together with the power wire then connect that to the positive and ground wire from the deck, amp and cap to the neg. of the battery. If you deck need a antenna to power on then shove a hanger in the plug in part of the antenna or you can go buy one. Make sure you tape up your wires very nice and tight because it is not a pretty picture to let the wires touch. ;P Good luck on this.

I've seen people use say an Ipod instead of the head unit. If I were to do that, how do i turn on the amp then?
