Default Got a J's style intake...

I just got a J's Racing imitation short ram intake (from passwordJDM) to replace my battered, nitrous tapped, duct taped AEM CAI.

First off this thing is LOUD. So damn loud, in fat, that I can no longer hear my newly installed catless exhaust! But it’s a good kind of loud. It’s really deep. In fact the bass it produces is so apparent in low RPMs that it shakes the seats in my car!

I did notice, however, that (I think, butt dyno isnt very accurate) that I low end. Enough low end, that it’s something I noticed almost right away. Is this normal, when going from a CAI to an SRI? It seems to pull well up top, but the loss of the low end "grunt" is disheartening, making me jump to conclusions such as the fact that my car is not SLOWER. Any comments or insight anyone would like to give here on the subject?

yeah the j's style intake is loud. i have a fake one as well but not from passwordjdm; before i had an AEM CAI and the sound difference is huge, especially in vtec. as for the power difference, quick throttle response and more low end, top end feels the same (for me)

So are you saying that is lagging more in low end? Damn that sucks. Ive been wondering about this intake. It looks gorgeous tho!

Ahhh, I don’t know why it mattered, but after resetting the ECU, the assdyno tells me the pull is stronger.

Either way, I’m happy with it, lol mainly because I can no longer hear the *** sound that is a catless NA Honda engine

Also, if you want to know why I got this instead of another AEM or something, I’ve seen multiple independent reports of this specific intake giving a stock internealed B16A2 w/ header and cat-back exhaust a 6WHP and 7 WTq. gain. Funny thing is that the passwordJDM guys list one of the lower gains for this intake on their site! Either way, I’m happy with it. Plus, at 140 bucks (after rebate) it cost a smidge less then a new AEM or whatever.

I do have to say that all things being equal, this intake sounds BAD ***. I thought the AEM CAI sounded good, man this thing takes the cake!

I noticed alot better throttle response with my fake J's intake compared to a stock ITR setup.

I plan to dyno test them someday.

You should notice better throttle response over your AEM CAI HOWEVER, a few dyno's have shown (b19coupe comes to mind) that the AEM CAI did make more overall power and torque over the J's.

So for the people that have the J's/J's style SRI, do you consider this a step up from an AEM CAI? Better throttle response? More power? I really like the look of these and passwordjdm has a nice price on them right now too.

Joe you and I have about the same setup. I love the sound of the J's but I think the loss of torque feel is coming from the test pipe instead of the intake. I noticed the same feel but after a better header I think I got back what I lost.

nah, i was running the test pipe/exhause before i had the J's intake. Nothing changed but the intake when I wrote that, however after resetting the ECU it seems to have gotten its pull back. As far as this VS my AEM CAI, I love the sounds far more then what the AEM produced. Any powergains, however, are too slight over the AEM CAI to tell w/o a dyno.

never used one, but this is cheaper, so it wins.

According to my understanding of fluid dynamics...first of all, loudness is a good thing because loudness is caused by movement of air. Second, this is perhaps the best design available to date - perhaps even better than the AEM V2 - at least if it were tuned on a dyno as much as the AEM V2 probably was for each application. The V2 is a great idea, but the surface areas inside the V2 could potentially cause it to be a bit inferior to this design.
