Default engine dies while driving

1993 civic ex.

While driving on a highway the mph guage would drop real quick, and the engine would die. But since the clutch is engaged it would just bump start itself again. Power would stay on and everything. When I'm driving around town and im slowing down and it does this the engine will just die and my power everything will still be on. I have to turn it off for a good minute or 2 before it will start back up. Any ideas what this could be? Thanks.

Your distributor could be dying. Same thing happened to me a few days ago. I was just driving and the damn car shut off and wouldnt start again. Luckilly I had a second distributor at my house. for extra parts! lol

most likely it's the ignitor. a friend of mine had the same problem so we just opened it up and replaced it. all good! as long as it doesnt just die and you cant start it anymore. in that case, you should definitely check your timing belt. happened to me not too long ago on the freeway when the timing belt snapped and car just died.

yeah I would go with your distributor, maybe a loose wire in there or maybe it needs to be replaced. That would be were to start first.

the igniter is inside the distributor and honda wants $200 just for the piece but you can get a brand new full dizzy with 3 year warranty from distributorking on ebay for $200 shipped overnight.

yeah but just get a used one from someone on here, you can get one from a local HT member for around 100bucks or so, you just need a sohc vtec dizzy(obdI) because this is going on a D16z6...

also check the casing on the dizzy, if the plastic is cracked it all it could cause it. I know it sounds funny but it does cause problems. and a new dizzy cap is quite cheap.

matter of fact there is one on here for cheap,

Well, the car officially died and I am getting no spark. So I changed the distributor and am still getting no spark. Is there any way to check if power is getting to the dist(to see if ign switch is working) or any other ideas. Thanks.
