Hi guys, I don't want theory and here say.
If you have not run an 86mm bore or know someone that has run an 86mm bore please do not respond.
For those of you that have, any proplems with it. How often did you go through gaskets.
Any tips to aid in getting it to seal? Thanks in advance for the help you may provide.

hey this is mike k. using my friend's screen name. anyway, my best friend in florida did it, and the motor lasted for like 15 minutes before he blew a headgasket... then he had the block o-ringed and we used a copper headgasket.. it lasted for a week. no matter what, it kept blowing headgaskets. if you want to talk to him more, he is on this board. his name is topspeed86.
I ran a 86mm bore, and bigger, had no problems with it at all, yes it was a race car, not a street car, but still we run lots of compression, and still have no problems with it, but on a street car, Im not sure how dependable this would be, but no need to oring the block, we run cosmetic head gaskets, with the fire ring, no problems at all.. I would definitley recommend a quality sleeve, if your going to be running that large of a bore.....
Running 14.1+ compression on an 86mm bore. Cometic head gasket and copper spray blew the first pass on the dyno. OEM gasket bored to 86mm and Indian head gasket sealer and no problems. 15+ dyno passes and 18 runs down the 1320.
we used a oem gasket bored 86mm with copper spray and never it held up then we used block seal from any auto store and never had a problem there after we drove the car from n.y. to n.j. 130miles and raced

Thanks for the responses guys.
If I may ask what is Indian head gasket sealer? Also what is block seal?

We have been running 86mm bore street cars for a couple of years now that probably have 20-30k miles on them. I haven't had one have any problems with their headgaskets. In fact I just finished two street car motors with 86mm bore x 95mm cranks that are out driving around now. As long as the motor is assembled properly you won't have any problems with the headgaskets. I don't use any kind of sealant just the gasket. Alot of issues with headgaskets have to do with tuning not the bore size. If you have any more questions about it let me know

That is good to know. Any tricks or assembly points I should pay extra close attention to. Were the these blocks step decked or o-ringed at all?
If you could go into more detail about what to check or be aware of when assembling it would be appreciated. I only ask because many people have had issues, and many have been fine. So naturally im wondering beyond assembly what are people not doing properly.

From what I have gathered so far it seems that a perfect tune is most important. Any kind of detonation is going to make the gasket give.
I forget what this is called, I know some guys do this. When the deck is like .005" lower than the top of the sleeves... I forget this procedure. Is this something that helps with sealing the HG?

Yes I would say so.We run 87 and don't have a problem .and we use stock gaskets ,just cut out with a boring bar
And the block ,sleeve thing is called letting the sleeves hang out about .005 or so.lol

Holy Moly- What am I worrying about then. J/K
Randy, what sleeves are you using on these 87mm bore cars. If you are being sarcastic and are talking about an H22 then shame on you.
