yOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
just making a thread because I see that buddy club has a sweet deal on a set of cams and cam gears for like $560 for the spec3+
The only thing is have any of you guys on the board had these in your motors.
how have they performed?
also I hear the lift on the spec3+ is not that much but the duration is high.
is this the type of cam someone can just put in and go without upgrading anything on the valvetrain?

No personal experience with them, but from the buzz in the N/A forum, I only hear good things. I've seen some pretty good graphs with the spec 4's. The midrange looks really sweet, and the torque curve is very similar to that of Toda B's, but with a little more topend...peak torque is almost under 6000rpms!
-MPH- who thinks the BC's are one of the only "good" cams out of the recent explosion of new drumsticks.

There are a few threads in the all motor forum if you guys search. Great midrange and good for a mild build up that still uses stock ITR valvetrain. Don't expect super high peak numbers though.

oh ok.. i hear peak is pretty good as well as the entire rest of the power band.
my main concern as stated in previous post, i just want to make sure i can use the spec3+ with stock valvetrain.
but looks like couple people have confirmed that.

You've heard wrong unless they've built their engines. With stock internals, you'll be lucky if you can hit 200 whp with 93 octane and bolt ons.

...I thought he was asking if the cams would work with the stock ITR valvetrain, not if the cams will make 200 whp?
That's my concern at the moment as well. It'd be nice to have 200 whp, but what I want are some cams that will expand my power band, while staying at the same redline. It'd be nice to pick up 4-6 whp from 5000+ RPM.

well i dont know much about these cams so i might have heard wrong.
but what other cam are these buddy club cams comparible too. as far as power band increase and all. i heard someone say there like the toda spec b's
anyone have any input on that?

there is alot more I could say here but I will make this as short as I can.
suggest: get BC3+ cams, drop em in with gears.
-without ecu tune on stock map with cam tuning expect a solid 6-8whp peak gain over ITR cams with more power everywhere else, especially from 2-5K.
suggest: AEBS intake manfold-without ecu tune on stock map assuming good cam tuning, this manifold will add
a 3-4whp gain peak and overall better flow than the excellent stock ITR manifold.
under $750 and you know installation around here is cheap
consider this your stage 1 NA up...
I would expect 160/116-162/118 as a baseline on your 98 ITR with CAI and milage/current state of tune. with a cam install/correct valve lash, and proper cam timing, you should add a conservative 8-12whp over stock on the stock header and exhaust with stock ECU and fuel with CAI. the curve will be more solid everywhere, and you can tune it to make peak TQ around 5200 which will help fatten the curve and help accelerate the car. I think the car should be able to touch 175ish-whp under these circumstances. ( would not advance the intake more than 3 out of 10 degrees or retard exhaust more than 1 out of 10 degrees, advancing up to 2 out of 10 degrees as necessary to make up for a flat spot if needed w/o ecu tune running the timing at around 17BTDC should be fine)
-with a socketed p28 2a-1 harness, etc with uberdata/crome/hondata what have you the car can make about another 3-5 I believe on the stock USDM equip through the cat. I think at this point you will start finding restrictions. this however once ecu tuned will find more power, mpg and overall drivability when tuned
(consider this your stage 1b)
from here: example: JDM 4-1, test pipe, T1R b pipe and catback
8-10whp peak gain easily
at this point 188-190whp should be possible on a conservative dynojet which should touch 13s in your R on street tires no prob (driven well) retuned, you might find a couple more... drivability is key with ECU tune. depeding on the condition of the rings you should make excellent power. (t1r system will be about $700 shipped and header with testpipe about $300 consider this either your stage 1c or 1a)
at this point, I wouldnt worry about power. I would add an ATS 1st gear and honda 4.7 FD. (or 4.93) your car should be deep in the 13s by now.
want more..? you might need to refresh the motor upstairs and down. if compression and leak down numbers are in the clear, wait for a while before
refreshing block.
past here there is power to be had, but requires some research. I estimate very conservative numbers... however when numbers are conservative the times tend to be faster
knowing you have a SOLID 190-195whp is not a slow R at all, especially with GEAR

I got my set from an H/T sponsor for $600/shipped for Spec3+ and cam gears.
I got them looking for better midrange power, not necessarily looking at peak numbers. I installed them on a stock B18C so I have a bit higher compression and I have a kenji chipped ecu so I can rev to 9k rpm. I don't do it often but at the time I wanted a higher than stock limiter so I can stay in a lower gear in long turns on road courses.
I have yet to tune the car but stock I made 178.9whp and 127.7wtq. So I'll be happy to be in the mid to upper 180's (maybe touch the 190's?) and in the 130's for torque. Not sure of the possiblity but I'll see when I can save for tuning the hondata by tony1.
As of right now, I like the mid range gains. I advanced the intake gear 2 degrees per Katman's suggestion and the midrange feels nice on the butt dyno compared to the stock R cams. The tone of the exhaust sounds nicer when VTEC crosses over, but that's besides the point.
All in all, I am happy with the cams and I bought them because after researching and talking to guys like Katman I found I could run it with stock valvetrain. A plus for someone on a budget like me.
Hope this was somewhat helpful as I am not the most technically savvy guy on here.
