Default tried searching but didnt get much....how to fix defrost

ok ive being going hi and low trying to figure out what the problem is with the defrot on the rear glass on my 88 SI crx...

at first the button wouldnt even light up...now i messed with it a bit and it does..but still no defrost action...

now my last resort is to use bandwith and ask you guys if you would have an idea on what to do to fix this...what should i look for...what to change etc..
THanks....here in Kanada we have cold weather and i cant see when the ice take over....or condensation
thx

Try this and report back. Get a voltmeter

Look in the lower corners of rear window. + terminal is on the drivers side and - is on the passenger side. See if there's 12V from + to ground. If not the defogger relay is bad or there's an open in the wiring.

If you have 12V check continuity between - terminal and ground. If no continuity check the defogger ground wire.

Once you figure out what happened you can test each heat strip. Put + lead in middle of heat strip and - lead to ground. If you have 6V the heat strip is broken on the - side from the center. If you have 0V the heat strip is broken on the + side from the center.

i had a similar problem on a different car. the light would come on but nothing would work out back. If you look at the window the terminals for the defogger are soldered onto the window. the solder on mine broke and was off SLIGHTLY. hardly noticable but closer inspection revealed the culprit! I soldered her back on and works since. check that.

i had the same problem with my 91 si. my button didnt light up and it did. but still no defrost. so i bought a new button of ebay for 6 bucks put it in and it works great now. so you might just need a new button if yours was out.
